WOW. I thought at first - oh god, please someone shut this guy up because he is fucking with Obama but I mean. wow.
that was a fascinating speech. Regardless of how you feel about the man, you have to hear it. Even CNN was flabbergasted about how amazing it was. They actually said it was 'unbelievable' He kind of turned the tables on the perceptions...

That Rev. Anthony is one passionate guy, that's a turn off to white people off the bat.

How can that be, when they were the freaking ones that created the flawed perceptions?

It was a good speech, I agree with his general take on education, but I disagree with his reasoning for the position. I do think our education grossly mislabels black (and poor kids in black neighborhoods) students as BEH or whatever, instead of considering the cultural differences of blacks in America, but I don't think it's because blacks inherently think differently than any other people.
I also like how CNN called the speech "humorous" and "entertaining" when that's not what the speech was really about. 4/27/2008 11:46:42 PM |

I dunno.
I was still getting a lot of hostility and anger out of his mocking impressions of the way white folks talk. He seemed to really enjoy making whites sound silly. But I'm sure I'm taking it out of context. 4/28/2008 2:51:57 AM |

When a black man criticizes the country, he's angry.
When a white man criticizes the country, he's "raising questions."

^ Then why did Wright feel it necessary to call Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice "Condoskeeza"? What legitimate questions could such an ad hominem attack raise? 4/28/2008 3:42:34 AM |
BridgetSPK #1 Sir Purr Fan 31378 Posts user info edit post |
^He may have thought it was kind of funny. Making a lame joke doesn't mean you're not raising legitimate questions.
Also, are you disagreeing with the idea that black folk's criticisms are more likely to be interpreted as anger than white folk's criticisms? Or are you strictly speaking about Rev. Wright's Condoskeeza comment?
I mean, because Lius is also talking about blacks and whites in general. So when you respond to him with a comment about Wright and imply that Wright's not raising legitimate questions, it sounds like you're saying black people aren't raising legitimate questions.
And could we pick a different phrase? I'm using "raising legitimate questions" for continuity's sake. But I'm up for something different.

Quote : | "THE US LIED ABOUT PEARL HARBOR. THE US LIED ABOUT 9/11" |
Quote : | "HIV was invented as a means of genocide against black people" |

^ Haha, that's exactly what he was talking about yesterday and today. It's so easy for you to say OMG HE IS INSANE rather than discuss what it was that he was really saying, and question why he was saying it.
Anyway, it's obvious that when it comes to the "black church" there's no hope for you - and it's your choice that you would rather look down on it rather than culture yourself.
Anyway, after watching Wright for the past 2 days speaking out, I feel like I've been missing out on a lot since I've never been a part of this "Black Church" community. 4/28/2008 10:38:23 AM |

Dude, how am I supposed to respond to BLATANTLY INCORRECT AND RACIST STATEMENTS?
Why don't you defend the substance of "the government created HIV as a means of genocide against blacks"
Defend it. Go for it. I want to hear this.
Are we supposed to discuss anything any crazy person says no matter how racist or how absolutely insane? Where do we cut the bar?
Should we try to understand why Trent Lott said what he did to Strom Thurmond before condmning him? What about Imus? What about Jessie Helms?
Why the different standard?

When that mistrusts rises to such a level, then it is extremely easy to view the United States Government as doing such.

Mike Huckabee, a former contender for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, said it would be “a little bit presumptuous to ever assume” that a congregant agrees with everything a pastor says.
“Influential? Sure. Necessarily transferable? Usually not,” Huckabee told a reporter while speaking with the press aboard Sen. John McCain’s campaign bus, the Straight Talk Express.

This has no relevance as it was not what I was saying. I'm not debating if people believed what he was saying. I'm saying he was preaching something that was patently false at worst or an extreme longshot at best as if it was a bona fide TRUTH to a group of people where objections could not be heard before the masses as it usually can in a university classroom, which is where this discussion belongs.
