Seems that the failure in Iraq is due to the fact that soldiers have spent too much time grabbing the gun, not enough time working with the rifle.

Or so says Republican congressman Paul Broun:

Quote :
"As a Marine, I am deeply concerned for the welfare of our troops and their mission, said Broun. “Allowing the sale of pornography on military bases has harmed military men and women by: escalating the number of violent, sexual crimes; feeding a base addiction; eroding the family as the primary building block of society; and denigrating the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad. Our troops should not see their honor sullied so that the moguls behind magazines like Playboy and Penthouse can profit. The ‘Military Honor and Decency Act’ will right a bureaucratic--and moral--wrong."

Who could have guessed that pr0n was the insurgents' main weapon?

I'm pretty sure pornography is more of a problem for troops stationed in Japan, as Japanese morals are about as strong as Iraqi AKs.

I'd love for some random Corporal to go in front of Congress with Rep. Broun in the front row, and for said Corporal to tell Rep. Broun what he thinks of him.

^ so if porn can prevent raping of men by men, it can also encourage raping of women by men in a deprived place, such as iraq.

i don't think it is farfetched to think there might be a connection between the porn and the multiple rapes of iraqi men and women and CHILDREN that have taken place.

I'm sure that the increased number of convicted felons allowed into the military are doing more to hurt the welfare of the troops then porn. There are members of gangs, even white supremacists.

Old article, but still true

Quote :
"In February, the Baltimore Sun wrote that there was "a significant increase in the number of recruits with what the Army terms 'serious criminal misconduct' in their background" -- a category that included "aggravated assault, robbery, vehicular manslaughter, receiving stolen property and making terrorist threats." From 2004 to 2005, the number of those recruits rose by more than 54 percent, while alcohol and illegal drug waivers, reversing a four-year decline, increased by more than 13 percent."

Eh. Rape has been present in war since the dawn of time.
