I got my bill yesterday and it went from $35 for the previous two months of billing to $110 for the most recent two months.

I've been looking online but haven't found anything. (Not a fan of the city's website.) I've also been on hold for over 30 minutes with the utility billing department.

Anyone else get a huge increase on their May bill?

On the utilities web page, click the button on the left hand side for 'Service Consumption'. Compare what you used from the previous billing cycle to the current. I dont think they were going to increase the rates (it was only mentioned but not passed). It could be that they misread your meter the previous month, and you are paying the difference now. Could also be a leak.

^ Yep.
You either have a hellacious leak or they screwed up. Either way you really need to figure out what is going on.

Either that or some sumbitch has been taking water from your tap! Running hoses to their lawns and such.

^^ hmmm....

I finally got through and they said they'd send a tech out Monday to check the meter. I HOPE we don't have a leak, but I'm in a townhouse so I imagine I would have spotted the leak somewhere by now. (Crawspace under the house is fine, water heater is in our utility closet and isn't flooding, etc., etc.)

make sure all the water is off in your house then go look and see if the little triangle wheel on the meter is spinning

if it is, then you have a leak

in the top right corner on the last few bills they have your avg consumption per day, has your's increased dramatically?

Mine has steadily gone down from 60 to 35 now.

yep hopefully its that and not a slow leak, keep up after them because they will tell you there coming out and never actually do it (we went through a somewhat similar problem last year).
