http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/13/new-ferrari-california-exposed/ http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080513.011/ferrari-california-revealed
Quote : | "The Hugely anticipated Ferrari California has been revealed with three official images and first details. The new GT joins Ferrari's 8-cylinder family and slots in just below the 612 Scaglietti with its new V8 which for the first time in their history is placed in the mid-front position of the car. Despite earlier predictions of a coupe model, the California will be exclusively available as a convertible featuring a folding hard top.
Power comes courtesy of a new 4.3-Liter V8 Engine with direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft, output stands at 460 horsepower at 7500 rpm which launches it from 0-100km/h in under 4 seconds. The new model is the first model in the range to benefit from a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission which helps enhance the performance figures and driving pleasure whilst simultaneously reducing emissions(c.310 g/km CO2). But the performance enhancements don't stop there, the California also gets a new multilink rear suspension system, the F1-Trac traction system originally debuted in the 599 GTB Fiorano and carbon-ceramic material brake discs." |

Not being built in Ferrari's factory, expect its value to suffer accordingly as viewed by the Ferrari purists.
I've also heard their target weight is 3750lbs, which is horrible.

Not being built in Ferrari's factory? Who are they contracting it out to?
And 3750 lbs for what doesn't appear to be that big of a car is really freakin' heavy. 5/13/2008 5:04:41 PM |

The thing is, the Maserati GranTurismo looks better than this bland-for-Ferrari Ferrari.
I would rather have any of these 2 cars:
Maserati GranTurismo/GranTurismo S
Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

They're actually reviving a historic name--the previous one being the 1957-1963 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. The 250 California is one of the most famous and easily recognizable vintage Ferraris, thanks to a major movie role--Cameron's father's car in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Though the new one doesn't quite live up the style of its famous predecessor, I'm afraid.5/14/2008 12:56:52 AM |

Thanks for the info [no sarcasm], and I knew about it, but I still maintain that "California" is a stupid name for a Ferrari any European product. It cheapens the brand name.
When American or Asian companies come up with some high quality/fancy product, they advertise using phrases like "European Design" or "European Quality".
But here we have one of the most famous European brand names selling one of its products by naming it after a US state.
They should have used a 4 litre engine (so as not to have 2 models with the 430 name), so they could have named it something like:
400GT Torino
etc.
P.S. And surely they could have done better than those 90s style 5-spoke wheels? How about some 7-spoke, or twin-5-spoke or twin-7-spoke?

Radio DJ Chris Evans Buys 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder for $10.9 Million
~$11 million???
For that much I would get:
Veyron Enzo Murcielago Continental Flying Spur
and a few 30k-50k cars, and still have millions left over. And oh, a house for a million or 2.
Quote : | "If you got it, flaunt it! As the saying goes, and it appears celebrity DJ Chris Evans Certainly knows how to flaunt it when he paid €7,040,000 ($10.9 million) for a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder at RM Auctions at the weekend. The legendary model was once owned by Hollywood Actor James Colburn and was originally expected to fetch a price of around €3.5 million, but a 30 minute bidding war saw the price double over the original estimate .
A spokesman for RM Auction said: "Chris made a successful bid for his Ferrari, which will take pride of place in his own celebrated collection."
The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder was designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, power came from 2,953cc V12 engine pumping out 280bhp. Should you wish to see model in action, we suggest you dig deep into your old video collections for Ferris Bueller's Day Off, when it starred as the untouchable car owned by Cameron Frye's dad, which of course they totally trashed." |
But it is freaking gorgeous.

Speculations: Ferrari California Veloce
Quote : | "As the creator of this image, CGI Automotive, already clearly states, this car may just be highly unlikely but don't rule it out. Ferrari might just build a sportier and more exclusive Ferrari California for the collectors if the new GT convertible is a big enough hit.
So far Ferrari has been very reluctant to build a more affordable 2+2 sports car and has finally decided to move into a higher turnover market rather than stay exclusively in the limited production super car segment. It only stands to reason that the extremely rich and demanding Ferrari clientele will be appeased with a Limited Edition version.
Don't expect much of a horsepower boost from the prancing pony for this limited edition but mainly expect to see weight-reductions and aerodynamic enhancements. The power boosts are sure to follow from tuners like Edo, Hamann and Novitec." |
This looks hot... and that face looks like some classic Ferrari.
