turn it off, leave it off for a couple days to let the inside dry out.

[Edited on May 24, 2008 at 3:11 PM. Reason : that is, unless it's already too late, in which case i'd recommend buying a new one next month]

they really should start making these things (consumer electronics) water proof.

if you happen to have access to a low heat, aka under 130 degrees, food dryer/dehydrator, they can help with water and electronics. Also open er up, pull battery all the way out, and rinse it out with denatured alcohol to help displace water and wash out any residue.

Park your car out in the sun. Leave phone in car for a day or 2.

I've left my phone on the air vents over night or for a day or 2. Of course the heat/ar has to be running....

Maybe set it infront of a fan that can blow on it.

well i took mine apart.. battery caught on fire somehow lol.. not sure how the fuck that happened

there was a ton of water between the digitizer and actual screen which i'm sure was part of the problem. unfortunately i tore a ribbon cable so i think it's pretty much f'ed

ah well, guess i shoulda put more effort into drying it out first

it was a drunken accident

and the screen was already cracked to shit + it was a 4gb model so it really wasn't worth much to begin with

i was planning on getting a new one next month assuming they come out with a new one then anyways so not much of a loss

ok- this might be what happened to mine the other night (i don't remember due to the head trauma, but it did feel a little moist the next day and now it won't turn back on). has this sit and wait method worked for anyone else?

no

the main reason IMO is that you can't pull the battery out like you can other phones. the only phones i've ever saved after water damage was by immediately pulling the battery out and leaving it out for a few days

that's what i was thinking would be the case... so how do you go about getting it replaced? Am I gonna need to go to AT&T or can they even do anything about it

not a clue really.. i didnt even try with mine bc the screen was busted already

hell it's worth a shot just showing up and saying it just quit working. on most phones there's a place to tell if it's been in contact with water but i dunno about the iphone

it's worth a shot anyways

[Edited on July 11, 2008 at 7:01 PM. Reason : and i'd go to apple store first]

well i left my phone on the charger- and now it shows the screen (it is the battery at the fully uncharged state) and it doesn't appear to be gaining any charge. It will stay on that image for a bit when i take it off the charger (except the little lightening bolt at the bottom goes away)

i think i'm gonna give it 2 or 3 more days...

I agree with skokiaan on the whole water-proof thing. It couldn't cost all that much more to design the ipod to be at least water resistant- especially considering the extremely limited number of openings it has. If it had an actual querty keyboard and sd card slot I'd imagine it would be harder, but with the few ports/holes it does have it seems like a no-brainer to put forth some small effort to make it a little more water-resistant right?

I know why they don't though- they don't have to. This is the danger of a company whose products sell on their marketing as much as any value/quality they offer the consumer. I'd rather not get pulled into the argument about exactly how much their marketing plays in their sales vs. their actual products worthiness. That's just asking for a Mac fanboi vs. hater cock fight.

Point is, they don't have to take small steps to improve water-resistance since their phones sell like crazy whether they work at 50 meters under or die in simple muggy weather. It's a shame really, but we've all been conned into forgiving when second and third generations of extremely expensive gadgets fail to acquire basic improvements to durability and ruggedness. As long as people who get their iPhones wet are just going to buy a new one to replace it, Apple will keep them as hydrophobic as possible. Same goes for all consumer electronics manufacturers- unless the market blinds itself to marketing and demands longevity in its products, they'll never want to make products last LONGER.

I've dropped a couple of phones in water, and every time uncooked rice has worked to salvage it.

Take apart the phone as much as you can, and submerge each piece in the rice. Leave overnight, and presto.

It never works perfectly but at least you will still be able to use it.
