i used to consider myself damn good at onboard electronics, but i have finally been defeated

i disconnected the abs pump on my truck because of tire size speed sensor error, and also unexpected activation, tried to get the brake warning lights to turn off, only to discover the abs module communicates to the bcm, and intrument cluster through serial data communications, no wires to clip, no switches to rig, just fucked with having to take apart the dash and take out the bulbs

What kind of truck? Did you recently replace the rotors?

Oh. I have had aftermarket rotors for ford products have bad ABS rings which caused the symptoms the OP mentioned.

no, going to 37" tires with 4.56 gears will definitely cause problems though

the computer can only tolerate and +/- 8% correction, this was a 25% change btween the vssand front wheel sensors

i'm guessing you know there's an aftermarket solution to this, right? i haven't priced them in a while, but should still be less than $200 i'd think. superlift might be the only source now, but you used to be able to get them a little cheaper directly from the manufacturer abbot-tach. didn't have the fancy decals and the instructions assumed you knew wtf you were doing, but they were the exact same units functionally.

or, won't a tech 2 turn it off in the bcm? i can't remember for sure, but it seems i remember they have the ability to do it. i know they can be used to turn off other functions/features in it.

you might want to consider a mechanical proportioning valve too since that was electronically controlled as well on 99+ nbs trucks.

its been like that for over a year, drives fine

point is, i'm not spending any money on it, speedo registers fine, +25% tires, -25% gears, but the front wheel speed sensors didnt match and square wave converters aren't that cheap, abs sucks off road and on wet roads anyway

the bcm doesnt control any of it on my truck, the abs computer is housed in the unit, and communicates through the bcm serial directly to the instrument panel board, no normal wiring to nigger rig

the parking brake and low fluid switches also go to the abs unit and activate through the serial com, technology is getting nig-rig proof

yeah, by bcm i'm referring to the brake control module. or ebcm eletronic brake control module, whatever. which the tech II can still control and adjust parameters to compensate for up to a 35" tire. i thought i remembered it being able to shut off the lights and abs in general too with a hidden menu/odd sequence, but maybe not.

anyway, i did a quick search for the gm specific abs part that superlift sells for your style truck. it's $80-90. part #3400. not that it matters now.

here's the ratio/pulse adapter thing i mentioned earlier. good to see they're still in business. looks like you save about $20-30 or so still. they'll do better than that if you buy more than one. i've used 4-5 of them over the years with good success. http://www.abbott-tach.com/era.htm

dakota digital sells some cool stuff too for converting mechanical to vss, vss to mechancial, pickups for drivetrains with no vss provision, etc.
