This is my first time posting in lounge (I'm looking for a serious answer). I was just wondering which credit card company would be the best for a college student during college. Right now, I've got a student debit card through Wachovia and I've only missed one bill payment for electricity (long, pointless story). I don't plan on using it for anything except emergencies (like the one I'm in now).

For the tl;dr crowd: Which Credit Card company/service would you recommend and why?

Starbucks Duetto Visa Credit Card through Chase.

1% rewards turn into starbucks dollars. Because college students need their coffee.

what types of purchases are you going to be using it for (bills, groceries, entertainment) and do you pay your balance in full each month?

I'll be using it for emergencies only. I'm not really looking to use it for everyday things.

Do you have access to SECU?

I'd recommend the SECU card simply because they're not quite as interested in raping their members as regular CC companies are in raping their customers.

If you're only using it for emergencies I would focus on cards that offer low interest rates and no annual fees. You don't really need a card that offers rewards like cash back since you won't be doing everyday purchases on it.
