Trey Anastasio, as quoted in Rolling Stone magazine:

“And it’s so funny because Fish and Mike and Page have been talking to each other a lot lately and now — it’s not that I can’t believe that I said that, but its symbolic of how much I lost my mind or how much I lost my bearings or something. Because at this point in time I would give my left nut to play that song five times in a row every day until I die. I certainly thought about that while I was in jail.”

Full Article: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/05/28/trey-anastasio-hints-at-phish-reunion/

I know all the people that hate phish are going to pollute this article, but I don't care. I, for one, am stoked.

I used to like Phish a lot.

Ever since I went to their "comeback" show in Hampton, VA in Jan. 2003 I have not cared for them at all. That was probably the worst show I've ever been to.

And to top it all off, people were paying upwards of $2,000 a piece for tickets to that show. If I've ever had a single regret in my life...

I'm praying hard that they aren't done. They definitely aren't one of the shittiest bands ever. You don't like them, fair enough. Some times their songs do suck because they improvise a lot... that's happens when you improvise. But Phish was one of the most talented, musically gifted bands in rock and roll history, whatever your opinion is.

I do have to agree that a lot of their fan base sucks though, especially these days. It wouldn't stop me from catching a show when they're around though.

ya im pretty happy i skipped that show, 2004 was pretty hit or miss, but i think the pressure of being a last tour got to them

2003 they were fucking on and it was great

im not a huge fan of most of the phish fanbase but then again im not a fan of any large group of people

i'd still put phish fans by far above most other dedicated band fans

anyway, this is awesome, and im very excited to hear this

given that trey was the driving force behind the break up this is very good news

Phish fans were great when the Dead were still around, then they all came over and totally changed the scene. I saw them in concert in 1994 and it was one of the best shows.
Personally I stopped paying attention to them for the last few years but never disliked their music... just some of the tools that were there just to get high and be dirty hippies.
I'd go see them again though.

more news on the horizon, tom and trey are working together again, theyve written about 15 songs which as it seems are meant to be phish songs, not trey solo songs, he also states that no one wants phish back together more than trey

http://www.popmatters.com/pm/news/article/59406/phish-lyricist-in-studio-with-anastasio-hints-at-phish-return/

Quote :
"Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, Trey Anastasio’s longtime friend and writing partner, said in an exclusive interview Tuesday that “Trey wants Phish to come back.”

Marshall announced that he has been writing and recording with Anastasio at the Phish frontman’s personal Rubber Jungle studios in Saratoga Springs, New York “for the past four months.”

“I think Phish is his baby,” said Marshall, speaking backstage after Dave Matthews Band’s Tuesday concert at Camden’s Susquehanna Bank Center. “It’s not like there are people preventing it from coming back, it’s just that the landscape has to be right for it to come back.”

“I’ve always been hopeful in expecting a Phish,” continued Marshall. “I think if the stars align and everything works out there will be. I don’t think they will ever be a huge touring band.”

All members of Phish—Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell—appeared together at the Jammy Awards in New York on May 7 to accept a lifetime achievement award. Although Phish did not perform, Anastasio made a cameo appearance on-stage, performing a cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” with a group of various artists.

On May 21, Anastasio received a reduced sentence of three years’ probation for a 2007 drug conviction after completing a counseling and treatment program in Washington County, New York. Anastasio faced class D felony charges after he was arrested in Whitehall, New York in December 2006 with prescription medications prescribed to another person, including hydrocodone, Percocet and Xanax.

“As one of his close friends, I’ll say he’s extremely happy,” said Marshall of Anastasio following last week’s ruling. “He’s come out the other side of this in the best way that someone can come out.” Marshall believes that Anastasio has “learned a lot” from his recent legal and personal issues. “It’s immeasurable what he’s learned,” said Marshall.

Anastasio is slated to perform his first major public concert since his 2006 arrest on July 4th weekend at the inaugural Rothbury festival in Rothbury, Mich. Two other Phish members, drummer Jon Fishman and bassist Mike Gordon are also set to make appearances, albeit with separate acts.

Marshall was elated about his recent work in the studio with Anastasio. “We’re on our fourteenth, fifteenth song in like two months,” said Marshall. “We’re extremely productive and got the drive again. I have the old Trey back, which is incredible.”

When pressed about where these new songs will end up, Marshall said they “could take a left turn into the Trey Anastasio Band or a straight turn to Phish.”

“(Trey) is just excited and happy to be done with his legal problems,” said Marshall. “It’s almost like we’re in 8th grade again.” Marshall, who began writing with Anastasio during adolescence while attending New Jersey’s Princeton Day School together, has penned over ninety original songs for Phish.

During their recent sessions, Marshall said he sometimes plays drums and Anastasio, widely considered one of rock’s best guitarists, will even play the bass guitar at times during the writing and recording process. Marshall said that he and Anastasio “have a new energy, a spark.”

“It’s spilling out of us. We’re both look wide-eyed when something meshes up because it’s meshing up a lot better these days then it did when we were under the fog, under the haze,” said Marshall. “We’re not in the haze. We’re just moving forward, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.”

Marshall said that he and Anastasio have not brought other Phish members into the studio, yet. “We haven’t done that in the past and we work best when there are no distractions. When we write, we write together. What happens with songs after that is up to Trey, really.”

“Reforming something like (Phish) has so many pieces, it’s a very complex, three-dimensional, four-dimensional, jigsaw puzzle,” said Marshall, adding “No one wants Phish back more than Trey.”

"

well, time to start saving up for a fall tour!!!!!

while their success is impressive due to how they attained it in the 90s, i won't argue that the band's music puts me to fucking sleep, isn't even that talented (whoever said something about how they improvise and thats why some of their songs suck. Improvisation is the true showcase of talent and so if they suck at improvising then they obviously aren't very talented) and their fans make me want to go postal.

i can understand someone not liking phish's music b/c the long jams bore them, it's not the style they like to hear, shit sounds too crazy / abstract, etc... but to say they are not talented? that is a bullshit statement. each member of the band is greatly talented and they are a very technical band. their music isn't for everyone.

at least get your facts straight. Phish was relatively unheard of until "Down with Disease" got airtime on MTV and made it into a Beavis and Butthead clip.

Also, the death of Jerry Garcia and the departure of the remaining Grateful Dead members caused the massive shift in hippy culture that made Phish successful. The Deadheads needed a new band to follow so they could continue to sell drugs and veggie burritos, and Phish was an easy place to turn to.

Wow, you really have no idea what you are talking about. That video sucked and deserved to be mocked. I think the band even felt that way. But to imply that that video had even a shread of value into making Phish big is retarded. The thing that made Phish as big and as popular as they are/were is the internet. Phish was one of the first bands who, along with their fan base, made active use of the internet. Phish.com, Phish.net, rec.music.phish, etree, bittorrent, p2p, etc..... fans of phish were on the absolute bleeding edge of all of those technologies trading shows, reviews, etc. Everything that bands are doing now is based on the template that Phish laid out 15+ years ago.

(and the worst thing that ever happened to Phish was the Jerry dying. There were douchebags on tour before but they weren't NEARLY as prevalent as they were after Jerry died. Phish was already getting pretty big as they began rolling into Fall Tour 95, but the adding-in of deadheads pretty much ruined the scene, imho.)
