Ivy Commons is nice...http://www.raleighrental.com

managed by Beth Williams at Ammons Pittman Property Management. Right on the Greek Court & Avent Ferry wolflines. Also easy bike/walk to campus. They are not that bad price-wise for a 1br either -- $490/mo.

I lived in one for 6 months and looooooved it. Never saw any problems with cars being broken into or anything.

-Cameron Court on Hillsborough across from St. Mary's should be around $600 (don't know if you consider that reasonable or not)
-Raleigh Apts. near Cameron Village, next to Broughton High School--would be a hell of a walk but a nice bike ride
-Cameron Village Condos II on Daniels Street near the CV Teeter--individually owned & managed so you'll have to patrol for "For Rent" signs but they're a good place (I lived there for 3 years)

I live at Ivy Commons now and have been here for two years. Very nice, although the one bedroom living room/kitchen can seem small. The bedroom is big however. Very quiet, no bugs. My rent was $460 (through Ammons Pittman). Its going up to $470 for my third year however.

1. ivy commons
2. kensington park(pool)
3. pine knolls

-------

those are the ones i'd consider...others include westgrove towers, mission valley

if by affordable you mean "cheap college budget apartments"

The walk from Raleigh Apts wasn't THAT bad. But yeah, a bike would be helpful.

And I think studios there are like ~$450 maybe and 1bdrms are ~$550 or maybe like 530.

my girlfriend lives in boylan heights...a lot of those old homes have been converted into 1-bedroom apartments and they're very nice...expect to pay about $650/month plus utilities, though

Cameron's are good, but can be $$$ and not really for a poor college student or soon to be college grad.

Which Cameron are you talking about? Court? Village Phase I? Village Phase II? Something else? You need to be more specific...

Boylan Heights area is nice. The quality of each house varies though because they're so old. Some have been maintained and others haven't. You will find some interesting older features like my friend has an old fashioned bath tub in her apartment (but no dishwasher). A lot of give and take. Very cute though.

nice helpful thread. I'm looking for something on the east or north side of Raleigh that is affordable. It's been difficult to find something decent for less than 600.

Im moving into The Raleigh Apts next week (behind cameron village), rent is 575 for like a 750 sq foot apartment. Great layout, kitchen looks old, same with bathroom, huge living room, good location, no ac though, weak.

After you get settled in, post your thoughts here if you don't mind. I've been torn between there and Cameron Court for a while. Cameron Court has central air, but Raleigh Apts has parking lots, and is significantly cheaper.

I've lived in a 1bdrm at Raleigh Apartments for about two years, and I absolutely love it. I'm moving out-of-state in Aug and am very sad to leave it. The apartment is huge (probably twice the space I actually need); the office and maintenance people are great; and they have a groundskeeping crew that comes every Monday so the area always looks nice. You can paint ad do whatever you want to the place -- some people even plant trees and flowers right outside the entrances. They allow cats and dogs for an extra fee. I've never had a problem with parking, except high school kids park around there too during the day. The lack of central air isn't a real big deal -- get a window AC unit for the two or three months you'll need it.

Downsides are that there is very, very little counter space in the small kitchen, and if you're not on the top floor you can hear the people above you walking on the hardwood floors. And you have to look down when you're walking across the grass, because of the assholes who don't pick up after their dogs. But those are the only complaints I have. This place is awesome. It's not a student complex -- there are lots of young professionals living there, as well as some crazy old people that I'm sure have been living there for 40 years.

I chose Raleigh Apts over Cameron Court because of the price and location. It's closer to campus, closer to HT, and in a better neighborhood with better parking.

Pretty much everything you said is right in line with what I had heard from other people or assumed. I'll probably be moving there if they have any openings. Is noise an issue other than the hardwood floors? I don't care about other people's noise; it doesn't bother me at all. I'm more concerned about my own noise; I don't want to move to the kind of place where if I play music (at a reasonable level obviously) it's going to be annoying my neighbor.

I can sometimes hear a muffled TV or stereo, but it's not that bad. Sometimes though when they listen to the radio I can hear it well enough to tell what song is playing. (I live on the middle floor, and can't tell if it's above or below me.) I've only gotten one noise complaint in two years, from my upstairs neighbor, when a bunch of people were over to play Rock Band

yeah arbor creek isnt quite as close as i hoped but there's a cat bus stop at the end of the parking lot. if anyone else has any info on this place, i'd love to hear it.

theyre offering washer dryer (in the same unit which is kinda cool), all of the kitchen appliances including crap like a toaster and garbage disposal, paint the thing any color i want before i move in, and a few other perks.

rent is 535 including water and trash, and a free month for signing in june. 600sq ft.

sounded pretty good to me...

So I guess I fucked up and waited too long on the Raleigh Apartments. They are filled up and there are 3 people on the waitlist already.

The Shamrock Apartments, which they own, seem to have openings. Anyone know anything about them? It seems that they are significantly smaller, and don't have hardwood floors, but they do have central heat and air.

cameron court is alright. ive lived there for 2 years now. parking isnt really that bad. you parallel park on one of the side streets. they're finally putting in the landscaping, benches, and a grill that we were promised last year. the great thing is that you can barely ever hear anything from the neighbors.

we are planning on not renewing our lease though. for what you get, its still a bit expensive. biggest 2 bedroom, 1 bath is going for over $750 now. its actually closer to campus than raleigh apartments and its still only a 5 minute walk to glenwood though.

Well, I signed with Cameron Court on Saturday to move in later in July. Got the last 1 bedroom left; would have liked to have a top floor, but I'm on the 2nd. Oh well... Hopefully everything works out.

QUESTION:
is dominion walnut creek really that bad? the room i looked at was way in the back, and it seemed really nice. new kitchen and w/d, fireplace, all that jazz. but i've read lots of horrible reviews on the place as a whole. i THINK they got new management, but i'm not really sure. anyone have any more info?

Oberlin Court seems ridiculously nice. If it was in my price range I would not have hesitated to move there. I'm pretty sure Cam Ward used to live there.
