Who, on this board or elsewhere, is asserting that Puerto Rico is racist? You know what? Some people voting in the democratic primaries based their decisions on matters of race. That's sad. Nevertheless, the majority of people that go around saying OMG THIS OR THAT STATE IS RACIST are either Clinton supporters or Republicans (two groups, I might add, that would have a Venn diagram with a non-trivial intersection) who are simply trolling forums, being facetious assholes on news shows, or something along those lines.

^ Well, why don't you cry about it? Is no one allowed to question Obama's "Second Coming"?
How do you explain all those Latinos voting for Clinton? Let's hear your brilliant thesis.

Who cares? Puerto Rico is utterly meaningless since it has zero electoral college votes and cannot affect the general election.
Having primaries in PR is about as useful as having them in China. 6/3/2008 1:08:17 AM |

I have no particular reason to believe that determined the outcome, however. After all, sexism is as alive and well in Puerto Rico as anywhere. Anyone have actual evidence suggesting why Puerto Rican voters made the choices they did? 6/3/2008 1:35:16 AM |

i think that's pretty much the point of the thread. i think he's using sarcasm to make fun of the Obama supporters that used the racism excuse every time Clinton beat Obama in a state with lots of whiteys.

It's not elitist to say she consistently wins a demographic (she calls it blue collar, but essentially it's the high school and less demographic).
She won every demographic in Puerto Rico.
Good Job.
They still can't vote in the real election. 6/3/2008 9:43:17 AM |

All this smack talk on puerto rico.
So the puerto ricans and hispanics have finally figured out how the obama campaign works
1. rant "change change change, nothing works right now" get votes, also lose some votes 2. those who don't follow, claim racism (get more votes from popularity and outrage) 3. remaining speculators are automatic racists 4. nick name them "blue collar" / "religion clinger" etc... 5. if race==white && party == republican: automatic racists, draw more outrage 6. if fellow democrat disagrees, claim they are republicans 7. if other races than whites disagree, claim they are dirty puerto-guata-mexi-ricans who don't deserve to vote anyway. 8. if there is a rev wright or greater problem, claim racism, draw public outrage at even noticing a problem, then ultimately if that fails, flip flop
since the puerto ricans have even figured this shit out....
this strategy should go smooth for the next few months. 6/3/2008 10:27:21 AM |

Hey how about I take a whack at explaining the loss
37% of Puerto Ricans polled didn't know who Obama was and who gives a shit about campaigning there when they can't vote in the general
Clinton on the other hand has massive name recognition there between her time in the White House and being a NY senator
That's pretty much all there is to it 6/3/2008 4:01:07 PM |

I guess it's a tie between it being Obama's fault for not campaigning in a territory that doesn't even vote in the general election, after he already won the primary I might add, and the Puerto Ricans fault for not being educated voters.
