annualcreditreport.com is the government mandated location where you can obtain your 3 credit reports once a year for no cost.
at freecreditreport.com you can get your reports at no cost, but you have to agree to start paying for there credit reporting services after a 7 day free trial. You can cancel before that date, but it's a pretty big hassle if you just want to see your report.

^^Are you using their Triple Advantage credit monitoring, or did you cancel it already?
^ Looking at their website, you have 7 days to cancel their credit monitoring. Otherwise it's $14.95 a month.

^^^no one said it was a scam. It is just a paysite for Experian to get a copy of that report. Using http://www.annualcreditreport.com you can get a copy of your report from each of the 3 major reporting agencies (Experian, Transunion, and Equifax) every 12 months.
from freecreditreport.com:
Quote : | "When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period*, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership." |
there are no strings like that for annualcreditreport.com

I tried to get a free credit report from that annualcreditreport.com website. I picked one of the 3 groups to do it. I just got something in the mail from freecreditreport.com telling me they are working on the report. I'm confused. I didn't pick them to do my report. does this make any sense. 6/8/2008 2:16:53 PM |

From the latest clark howard show (I heard him talking about this on Friday)
Quote : | " Many options for your FREE credit score There was just a smattering of news recently about TransUnion losing a lawsuit over illegally selling personal info. As part of the settlement, the credit bureau will be required to give you free access to your credit score and other info for half a year. This decision will affect 160 million people.
Traditionally, people have had to pay for their credit scores. If this TransUnion settlement happened a year ago, Clark would have made a big deal about it. But there a couple of reasons why it doesn't matter as much today.
First, there's the government-sanctioned AnnualCreditReport.com that allows you to get your credit report once a year for nada. Second, there are already a number of ways to get your credit score for free.
Some credit card operators, such as Washington Mutual, will give you your Fair Isaac score every month as part of their marketing efforts.
You can also use Quizzle.com to get your Experian credit score for free. Other free sites to try include CreditKarma.com and Credit.com.
These 3 "dot coms" all give it away in the hopes that you'll buy the products and services they're trying to market. But there's no obligation to buy anything at all.
Why should you care about your credit score? Even if you don't need any credit, a mistake on your score will trigger higher insurance rates or you may be turned down for a job. So check it out! " |
