So I flew to the UK a couple weeks ago and we had a 5 hour lay-over in Philadelphia before the flight to the Heathrow airport. We decided to get a bunch of Jack at the duty-free store. We were told not to open it until we arrived in the UK. We got bored and bought a bunch of 20oz cokes and walked around the airport drinking jack and coke. We then boarded the plane and finished off the jack on the flight overseas. Figured it was a deal because you have to pay 5$ each for the airplane bottles.

Why aren't they more strict about this? It seems to me anyone can bring alcohol onto a plane because they never do bag checks for open alcohol once you get past security. Has anyone had similar experiences?

First, I didn't know there was a duty-free store in the PA airport. Second, they probably don't do bag checks because only a small percentage (myself included) of people would bring an open bottle of booze on an airplane. Third, this would make boarding a one hour process, at least.

I have a question to whoever feels like looking...Can you get a drunk-in-public ticket on an airplane? Who's jurisdiction would it be-wherever you land???

The airlines have so many other things to worry about these days that booze is probably really low on the give-a-crap radar. If you walked up to board and were drunk, they wouldn't let you on and would probably take it away, and if you were too obvious about it on the plane they'd take it, but other than that, they just don't have time to care.

you have to be careful, because if you appear too drunk they have the ability to deny you the ability to board...(i spent too much time at an airport bar on a long flight delay once and almost missed my flight due to this)

there's no rule against it if you bought it from duty free, which is the only way you can get it in with security denying liquids these days

I am sure the airline are more worried about terrorists trying to sneak on box cutters and guns then a few dumbasses saving a few dollars by bringing on their own booze. This is what i find retarted about the way NCSU treats students entering football games. They anal cavity search they give students entering the game is not for their safety looking for guns; the primary reason is to stop drinking *gasp ZOMG college kids getting drunk!

tLast year I went on a field trip to DC for a political class here at state and we took amtrak. One of the kids got so drunk and obnoxious that at our stop at Quantico the marines came on board and removed him. We found out later he spent a night in the brigg and his dad had to come and pick him up. He received a drunk in public ticket.

I know someone that has been barred from getting on a plane because he was too drunk, at least once. He also got kicked off a plane before it took off, again for being to drunk. You can have a nice buzz but if you're wasted you can be barred. If you are in flight and you get too drunk you can get a drunk and disorderly ticket. The place where you land has jurisdiction over you (<--- I think).

One time I was flying back to RDU from visiting a friend and he got me completely plastered before taking me to the airport. I honestly don't know how I made it past security, much less onto the plane. I think they had to wake me up at RDU because I was passed out

If you ever watch(ed) Airline on A&E, they followed day to day operations on Southwest. Of course several episodes dealt with drunk and unruly customers. They would generally hold them until the next flight to sober them up. One group got rowdy inflight and I think they let the group get back onboard and continue their flight, but one or two who were really disorderly and also inebriated had to stay behind. I'm surprised they didn't get arrested, as the one guy was on the plane yelling "Hold on to your asses, we are going down! We're all gonna die!" and shit like that.

every time i've flown internationally i've received free booze. lufthansa served it to me when i was 18 on my way and back from germany. i think i was on united or american from chicago to japan and was 2 days shy of being 21. we asked for alcohol so often that the flight attendant ended up bringing us a brown bag full of airplane bottles, although i think he had a crush on my male friend.

you should be ok as long as it's in a plastic bag. one time i went through the checkpoint and forgot i had a small bottle of contact solution/eye drops. they searched my bag and told me to put it in a plastic bag or they will throw it away. i think i had them throw it away. even though most airports can supply you with the bags, they aren't available at the checkpoints so it was a waste to go back to get a bag then re-enter security.

On longer flights (typically with friends) I always bring airplane bottles. Its not a problem & soda is typically free.

I flew them in 2006 to Japan. Rude service, they ran out of food at both dinner and breakfast, and no free booze. And they lost about 100 people's luggage to top it off. I will never fly them again.
