Figures. I just went through there yesterday and probably won't be going through there again for another month.

Does it completely bypass all those bullshit stoplights?

^ Well yeah, I figured, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't like the stupid Jacksonville "bypass" that you still have to go through 3 stoplights on the front and back end to get to.

So instead of taking exit 306 to get on highway 70 east to get to New Bern, now I take exit 310?

Ya, something like that. It shaved off like 10 mins of driving. It'd probably be more during rush hour.

Coming to work from Johnston Co., the bypass is meh. I got to drive faster and there are no lights, but it didn't save much time cause the dumbasses on 40 don't know how to handle the merging.

Going home it is incredibly faster. I saved 14-15 minutes yesterday. As long as there's not a wreck on that short stretch of 40, it's smooth sailing.

They really need to widen the section from Exit 310 to Exit 300. That stretch is a mess most mornings.

It is already in the works to widen from US1 (293?) to Wade Ave (289?). Once this happens, the backup around lake wheeler/gorman should lessen some.

but you know, merge is just french for stop and wait for someone to let you in...

yeah i know of the US1(293) to Wade (289) plan... but it really also needs it on the other end from the 40/42(312) up until the merge with 440.

BUT if they put in the damn 540 that completed the loop they wouldn't need any of it as most of those people could jump on 540 off of 401 or US 1 (main problem for the whole I-40/US-1 interchange)

not to mention that people could get on it from 40 near the new 70 bypass interchange... overall the 540 project should be moved along much quicker and higher on the priority list than widening 40.

it would eliminate many of the problems the widening is designed to fix

loved it this morning around 10, mainly due to no traffic headaches.

hated getting to it at 5:45 because 40 sucks. but once i got on i had no problem.
usually i just go back ways on rock quarry to east garner road (old 70) but that doesn't help me when there is a concert at walnut creek.

so boo traffic.

yeah, it is right after the old 70 exit (it says business 70), 2 miles down, and says 70 east to smithfield.

no. not a single damn sign. they spent millions on a highway and didn't put up a sign to tell you where it goes.
