so I found this old painting in this old house yesterday and its really quite gorgeous

I found the name on it, but its quite generic J. Smith

anyone know how I might would go about finding out who this person was/is and what other works they may have done because i would loveeeeee to have some other pieces such as this one.

its a beach scene with a few seagulls...generic again.

any ideas of where to start?

they have stuff like this on antiques roadshow all the time

try to find an art dealer who also has a knowledge of antiques

but there might be a chance you'll never find out
