^ thanks.

The NSX is dead, but they did continue to develop it to make the racecar below. Why couldn't they make a production car as well? Credit crunch? The GT-R and LFA are ample reasons for making one!

Honda releases photos and specs on HSV-010

Quote :
"After a single teaser, a slew of spy shots and a handful of videos, Honda has finally released all the official details on its new GT500-bound HSV-010 racecar. Based on the discontinued NSX successor, five HSV-010s will hit the track at the SuperGT season opener this May, with 10 drivers, including Ralph Firman and Yuji Ide.

While the road car was believed to have been powered by a new V10, the HSV-010 uses a 3.4-liter V8. The engine is likely a derivative of the powerplant used in the Acura ARX-01 LMP2 car in the American Le Mans Series over the last three years. With 496 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque propelling its 2,425 pound mass, Honda's new team of GT500 racers has the chance to take the Japanese series by storm."

So... 2016 production NSX is finally debuting on January 12 at the NAIAS

Now pressure is on Toyota to revive the Supra.

Quote :
"Without going too much into technical details, the company says it will have a three-motor, twin-turbocharged Sport Hybrid power unit mounted inside a "human-centered supercar." Acura says the production-ready version will premiere on January 12 at NAIAS in Detroit before entering production at the new Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio.

The 2016 NSX was designed by the Acura Design Studio in Torrance, California and developed by a global team of engineers led by the firm’s North American R&D operations in Raymond, Ohio. Motivation is expected to come from a mid-mounted V6 twin-turbo engine working together with three electric motors, with one of them incorporated into the dual-clutch gearbox. The combustion engine will power the rear axle while the electric motors are going to drive the front wheels."

In the mean time, this FWD hatchback will outperform the original NSX, according to Honda:

So... here it is.

Too much anticipation for too long... doesn't live up to it. Nice mid-engined side profile, but front lights/details are ugly. Rear lights are ok, meh overall. Will perform well I from the specs/details that are known.

Quote :
"The second generation Acura NSX draws most of its styling cues from previous concept but everything else has changed as Acura has decided to ditch the naturally aspirated V6 of the 2013 concept in favor of a longitudinally-mounted twin-turbocharged V6 developing “north of 550 horsepower.” The conventional engine works together with three electric motors sending all power to both axles to form what Acura calls the Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.

Two of the electric motors are mounted up front for torque vectoring while the third direct-drive motor sits at the back between the combustion engine and the newly developed dual clutch nine-speed gearbox. The Acura NSX sits on 19-inch front & 20-inch rear wheels shod in 245/35Z R19 front and 295/30Z R20 rear tires and stops efficiently thanks to six-piston front & four-piston rear calipers coupled to carbon ceramic brake discs."

Will start around 150K.

The moment Ford unveiled the new GT everyone forgot about this car, lol.

Quote :

No, not really. The Supra never competed with the NSX. Sure their performance was similar, but the NSX was always 50% more expensive than the Supra TT. Toyota needs to revive the Supra, but not as some moonshot 6 figure car. It's proper place is as a 2+2 GT coupe for $45k or so at most - remember the Supra competed directly with the Nissan 300ZX TT and should thus compete now with the 370Z. (in before the blah blah blah in 1998 the Supra TT was $40k+ [result of strong yen at the time]). Biggest problem I see for Toyota and the Supra is how to keep it under $50k while outperforming the Mustang GT (which historically it has always done - I think?).

making a supra is sure to lose toyota money, at a time when auto sales are already historically low. i don't see them making anything more performance than their lexus 'sport coupe' line. just like i don't see the nsx coming out. japan is having their lunch eaten by korea right now and over extending for a low volume car would be stupid

supra would/should fall in vette land like it origninally did teg... it would be 60-80k now with inflation...

hell it was 45 in 1996.

smooth... you haven't been watching the numbers have you hoss?

auto sales have recovered and then some...

toyota sales are taking off since the honda/takata air bag debacle...

toyota needs something to get out of boring... even their "exciting off road truck line" is just orange boring.

toyota has the lowest marketshare in they've had in the US in a long time. They're at ~14% down from 17.4ish in 2007 and doubt they'll ever recover. the industry may be back, but toyota in america isnt

it picked up in December and will probably continue...

they will recover now that the un intended acceleration jokes have stopped and the death by air bag or lack their of jokes start.

Smooth, how did you just say that the NSX isn't being built. I just...huh?!

And so was the 300ZX. And for $30k today you can buy a 370Z that outperforms the 300ZX in every way. Toyota could very easily produce a Supra today that started at $30k. But you are probably right in that it would compete price-wise with the Corvette. Problem there is that Toyota cannot produce a sports car that can go toe to toe with the Corvette for even money. So their best bet would be to market it more as a GT (like I previously mentioned) to differentiate itself from the Corvette. The whole mid-to-late-90s Japanese sports car pricing topic has already been discussed ad nauseum and just using inflation as an argument for prices now versus then is being over-simplistic.

At the moment I'm still trying to figure out how Lexus's RCF (which I think looks hideous) weighs about 50 lbs MORE than the GSF. Guess that's what happens when you blend together 3 platforms into one.

well it was developed as a vette fighter originally and while it was made (c4 era) it was faster than any vette produced save the zr1 in every metric.

and thats before (bringing out the old school terms being a pre F&F supra fan) BPU+ was done (boost control intercooler and exhaust) then even a zr1 couldn't touch it.

2017 Acura NSX priced from $156,000, tops out at $205,700

Quote :
"Acura has announced the highly anticipated 2017 NSX will carry a starting price of $156,000 MSRP in United States.

If you want to go all out, Acura says the 2017 NSX can cost as much as $205,700 if you add all the factory features and the available optional goodies."

Quote :
"As a reminder, the 2017 Acura NSX is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine developing 573 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It works together with a nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox, a 47-hp rear assist motor and dual 36-hp electric motors to enable a combined output of 573 hp and 476 lb-ft. The vehicle weighs 3,803 lbs (1,725 kg) and needs around 3 seconds to run the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint prior to hitting a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h).

Designed, developed, and built in United States, the 2017 Acura NSX will be made in Marysville, Ohio at the company’s Performance Manufacturing Center."

Would have been a lot cooler if it was never developed with all this hybrid crap. Probably would have cost 2/3rds of this one, similar performance and 500 lbs (or more) lighter.

"2017 Acura NSX: The Slowest Supercar in the World? - Ignition Ep. 143

Published on Dec 7, 2015

The Acura NSX is certainly not a slow car – with 573 hp, it’s anything but. However, we’ve been waiting for this car for almost a decade. It’s finally here, with a bespoke, 500-hp twin-turbo V-6 and three electric motors that provide real torque-vectoring – and step in to mask turbo lag. The NSX has all the ingredients for the tastiest supercar, but does it all work as well as the original NSX did? Will it make Ferrari step back and say “whoa” once again? Does Honda’s decision to stuff the NSX full of so much technology actually make for a better-driving supercar? Motor Trend Senior Features Editor Jason Cammisa heads to Sonoma Raceway to find out on this episode of Ignition presented by Tire Rack."

http://www.motortrend.com/news/2017-acura-nsx-first-drive-review

The video is actually very good; learned a lot of tech stuff from it! (esp. about torque vectoring--this car has real torque vectoring, unlike other cars which say they have it)

This car will NOT once again make Ferrari step back and say anything. When the original NSX came out, Ferrari didn't have a 900+ hp superhybrid or even a 488 which weighs less and has more hp than this superhonda. Once again, Honda took their sweet ass time and came up short, IMHO.

Honda wants everyone to be impressed by their supercar, one that has a very sophisticated drivetrain. Unfortunately, all that fancy shit doesn't make it any faster than comparable cars like the Viper GTS, Corvette Z06, GTR Nismo, R8 V10, Huracan, 488 GTB or 570S. And at the same time all that fancy technology takes away from the driving experience. And nobody shopping in that car class gives a shit about fuel efficiency.

*I acknowledge that both the Huracan and 488 are considerably more expensive.

^Exactly.

Give them gadgets. Remove the feel and driving experience.

They may as well have made this thing autonomous.

First one sold for 1.2 million

http://www.worldcarfans.com/1160130103475/2017-acura-nsx-001-sells-for-1-2-million

Quote :
"The very first production-ready Acura NSX was bought by NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick who previously bought the first 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 Coupe ($1 million), first 2014 Corvette ($1.1 million), first 2012 Camaro ZL1 ($250,000), and the last BMW M5 “30 Jahre” ($700,000). Just like with the 2017 NSX, all the money from previous sales went to various charities."

I thought what an idiot he buys all these "mundane" cars for 5-10 times what they are worth, but then I read it is for charity. What a cool guy.

The money for the NSX went to "Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground."

Even though he's technically buying those cars, does that money still count as charitable donations, for tax purposes?
