She's just a class act. When Teresa Heinz Kerry criticized her for "never holding a real job" which, according to Heinz Kerry, included teacher and librarian, there was a huge fallout over that. And this is why. I think most Americans, regardless of their opinion of Bush, thinks very highly of Laura because she repeatedly proves to be a class act.

I heard Scott McClealan a couple weeks ago on Fresh Air talking about his book, and Terry Gross asked him about Bush's reading habits - whether it's true that he doesn't read newspapers. He said that Bush will skim the headlines on some newspapers, and wouldn't ever read any opinion pieces. Then he said that Laura read all the papers closely and brought things to his attention that he should know about.
