I fished it out, took the battery out, and dried it off the best I could. I used a hair dryer on the lowest heat setting, dried it with a hand towel, and let it air dry for several hours.

When I put the battery back in, the light at the top left of the phone (the light next to the button with the envelope on it, for those of you who have these phones) is yellow -- something I've not seen.

I've spent time on customer service lines with Alltel (my carrier) and HTC (the phone's manufacturer). I haven't talked to anyone who's been of any help yet, and I can't find anything online right now. I'm out of town, so the manual is 250 miles away.

Anyone have any ideas? I have insurance on the phone, but I'd rather not use it if I don't have to.

It's a brick. I've heard of people taking electronics apart, drying with a hair dryer, then putting them in a ziplock back with dessicant for several days before turning it on, but even then they had trouble later down the road when corrosion took over.

take the battery cover off and in the bottom corner there is a white dot - is it still white?

if it's still white then you can perhaps get them to help you - if it's not white then you are going to have to use your insurance

I just want to say I did this exact same thing with a PPC-6700 (with Alltel, no less). Never got mine to work again, sadly.

yeah my friend dropped her sony cybershot into a tub few weeks ago and asked me to fix it. I asked her what she did and she's like: "i turned it on right after i toweled it off and it still worked! But now it doesn't!!!"

I had to tell her that water does indeed conduct electricity and she should have left it out for days to dry.

The problem is, the phone shut itself off immediately after it touched the water, but it also immediately restarted itself. I (incorrectly, perhaps) assumed I wasn't going to do any further damage by trying to start it up again a few hours later.

Live and learn. I can't change anything about it now. I'm waiting till the end of the week now to see if it'll work. If not, at least I have insurance.

true... i've learned the hard way too haha

the only time i was succesful in getting a phone to work again it was a samsung i had had for like a year already.. dropped it in a hot tub somehow on accident, yanked the battery out and left it out for a good two weeks. came right back on after that

a few weeks months later the screen went out..probably related somehow
