its what you'd expect, its a will ferrell comedy for crying out loud.
You go in expecting a dumb comedy that you'll laugh at, and thats what you get.
trailer is funny, I love the bunk bed scene...you know its coming, but its still so hilarious. 7/3/2008 10:17:24 AM |

^^^^Yeah, i saw that trailer too, good stuff.
"What are you doing" "I'm burying you!" "But I'm still alive!" "Shut up, you're waking the neighbors." *soft crying*
I'm very excited about this one, I thought the way these guys worked together in Talladega Nights was great.

^^ John C. Reilly is a good actor, unlike Will Ferrel. I don't think he's been all that funny in the comedy movies he has been in recently, but he always cracks me up as Dr. Steve Brule. 7/25/2008 8:29:02 PM |

John C. Reilly is an amazing actor, and until a few years ago was extremely under appreciated. of course now that he's widely known, his parts now aren't really living up to his earlier parts like in Boogie Nights or Chicago 7/25/2008 11:48:32 PM |

I was pissed this was a "Judd Apatow" production; I did not, however, let that get in the way of possibly thinking anything in this movie was funny...but it just wasn't. I saw it out of boredom, had no real expectations about it other than I liked Talladega Nights, and it just didn't come through. 7/27/2008 2:11:17 PM |

Saw it today and loved it. I haven't loved a Will Ferrell movie since Anchorman, but this one was great. I'll admit the humor is a very narrow spectrum - you have to really appreciate the subtle details beneath the obvious joke in each scene.
^^^^Most of the jokes in the commercials were altered for the actual film. 7/27/2008 5:18:13 PM |

I went with about 5 others. all but one of us enjoyed it, and the one that didn't said he was pissed b/c of the lack of plot.
The rest of us simply expected a Will Ferrell movie, and enjoyed it as just that. 7/30/2008 12:24:14 PM |

okay, well i guess i'll be kind of the odd one out here.
this is quite possibly the greatest comedy i've ever seen, and maybe one of the best movies in general. absolutely brilliant. going in, i expected it to be better than average but figured most of the funny parts were used up in the previews and there would be huge gaps of boring filler. i also assumed there was no way will ferrel could possibly top all the stuff he's already done. i thought at best i'd be watching another old school, ricky bobby, wedding crashers, or whatever. dead wrong. in addition to all the hilariousness, the underlying plot wasn't the super cheezy crap you find in most comedies. there was also a definite "deeper meaning" to be taken away from it if you were paying attention which really caught me off guard. whether it was intended or not i don't know, but it's there.
if you really don't like will ferrel or john riley i guess it's probably pointless for you to see it. you won't like it or their interaction will just annoy you. i'm not a huge fan of either guy, but i do like a good portion of their past stuff. there is also plenty of comedy that your average mindless movie goer won't pick up on. like some of the more obscure one liners, the shirts they wear, etc. some things are definitely going to be more funny to guys as you remember some of the things you did with friends as a kid. pretty sure most girls won't get some of it, unless you were close with a brother or have a son.
i watch a ton of movies, but rarely do i see one that i really rave about even if i like it. i definitely give this one a 10/10, gg.

WATCH

I really enjoyed it too. If you don't take yourself or life too seriously, then you can end up laughing the entire time. A couple of my favorites:
"What are doing?"... "I'm going to go teabag your drumset." (of course what followed was not one of my favorite parts0
"Your voice is like a combination of Fergie and Jesus."
"I feel like a bolt of lightning just struck the tip of my penis."
