Some jackass put too much load on the breaker shared with one of my domino servers and it popped. Of course the battery backup didn't last long enough and the server ended up going down.
Final uptime: 562 days
Another domino server System Up Time: 486 Days, 5 Hours, 6 Minutes, 38 Seconds Domino uptime: 127 days 7/3/2008 10:15:34 AM |

Server I set up in my parent's house. Went online January 2000. Came offline this year. Never rebooted. Total uptime about 8 years, 4 months. Had to scrap it because about 5 of the SCSI drives shit the bed.

That's really impressive for a residential household, do you have any power backup?

damn don't the UPS batteries have a pretty limited lifetime? seems like i could only get about 2 years out of mine. what were you running for power backup? how long could your ups keep the server going w/o electricity? 7/7/2008 4:56:10 PM |

It was a Belkin and it would probably only last 5-10 minutes, but we never lost power that long. Not even during hurricane season when everyone else in the neighborhood lost power. 7/7/2008 8:40:36 PM |

Not sure I get the point of this. If you've got a box up more than a year, you probably need to be patching something. Should just be part of the job. 10/25/2008 2:08:24 AM |

I want to see a box with years of uptime with average load of 90+%. not some dormant dns server that doesn't matter. someone post from an edu cluster 10/25/2008 11:06:30 AM |

Had to open my mouth about patching...
One of our Solaris 8 eos.ncsu.edu cell AFS servers: eos% uptime 7:19pm up 589 day(s), 3:52, 1 user, load average: 0.39, 0.45, 0.46
The load averages are higher during the week. And yes, we do plan to do an OS upgrade in the next couple months. 10/25/2008 7:26:13 PM |

^^^ um, load average isn't a percentage, it's the average depth of the scheduling queue, and can get into the double digits while still mostly idle on larger SMP systems (think 24-way Sun system, 10 active compile processes = ~10.0 load average but ~58% idle)
that said, I think we should restrict this to personal systems
thunder ~ # uptime 12:06:27 up 248 days, 22:02, 1 user, load average: 1.57, 1.28, 1.01
hasn't been down for any reason other than kernel upgrade or physical relocation in 3 years, home nfs server / vmware host, hosts a few shell server VMs, mail server VM, LDAP server VM10/26/2008 12:11:53 PM |

thunder ~ # uptime 05:19:32 up 251 days, 15:15, 1 user, load average: 4.49, 4.85, 4.35
Is that the stability under load you wanted to see?
I'd also like to mention it's a dual Athlon Mobile rig running a heavily hacked kernel to take advantage of the undocumented SMP frequency scaling support in the 760MPX chipset, with a patched up SATA driver to include port multiplier support and bugfixes ported over from the SATA development branch, while the DAS is a home-brew multilane over Infiniband enclosure. In short, that's uptime I have no shame taking credit for
