Have a computer that stopped working a while ago and I want to fix it now.

Symptoms:
1. It will always power on, fans whirl, lights come on, etc

2. Sometimes it does nothing more, as in, no beeps, no post, no video, no nothing, just fans and lights

3. Sometimes it will beep once, then do #2.

4. Sometimes it will beep once, then show the Pentium 4 splash screen, but never leave the splash screen

Any ideas?

Short.

I figured mobo too but I was hoping someone more learned than me would say memory or graphics card or something

yeah

short beep once means everything post-ed ok... which, in this case, it didn't, so we can only assume it's the mobo.

long beep usually means ram
long and short usually means cpu
long and 2 short usually means graphics card

but it varies based on who wrote your bios

I'd assume power supply on that before mobo.

Break it down to most basic config (minimal memory, no PCI adapters, no floppy, no CDRom, etc.)
Re-seat everything attached to the MoBo.
Swap everything you can if you have any spare parts (memory, video card, etc.)
Then replace the MoBo if all else has failed.
