^^Jesse Helms, on his own, would hold up nomination votes for judges. Throughout his tenure in the Senate he did nothing but hold up civil rights legislation, etc. He did a lot to move us backwards.

I had the honor of meeting Senator and Mrs. Helms a couple of years ago. He was very feeble and had a lot of difficulty getting around then. He was a great defender of our American values, and we are fortunate to have had him represent this state as our Senator.
