So my wife graduated college and is going to begin teaching in the Fall. In the meantime, there hasn't been a lot to do for her and the chance of getting a job for only month and a half is slim. She loves baking in her spare time and thought that maybe she could do that for some of you guys and bring in a little cash at the same time.

She's good at the baking thing and makes almost everything using base ingredients, not box mixes or pre-made frosting. Cookies and cupcakes are her specialty, but she can make cakes as well. Bring a batch to your coworkers or take them to a dinner party. No work, no cooking, and great results.

Just some suggestions for cupcakes:
- Pineapple Carrot with Lemon Cream Cheese frosting (omgincredible)
- Boston Creme cupcakes
- White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cupcakes
- Basic Vanilla/Chocolate w/ Vanilla/Chocolate frosting
- Tiramisu cupcakes
- Coconut Lime cupcakes
- Spice Cake cupcakes
- Red Velvet cupcakes

Cookies and other:
- Chocolate Chip
- Peanut Butter
- Sugar Cookies (w/ or w/o icing)
- Chocolate Hazelnut
- Oatmeal Raisin
- Chocolate Oatmeal no-bake
- Muddy Buddy Chex Mix/Puppy Chow

She can try about any recipe you'd want, especially if you have a particular favorite but just don't have the desire or skills to make it yourself. Shoot a PM with a specific request and she can make it happen. I would suggest placing an order 24 hours in advance. Delivery in or around Raleigh is included.

Prices:
Cupcakes - $10-$14 (depending on ingredients)
Cookies - 2 dozen for $8-$10 (same, ingredients)
"Puppy Chow" - $10 per batch, makes about 1.5 lbs if not a little more

Cool, thanks. Honestly, her and I were talking and we were just trying to factor in supplies and time. It's good to get feedback. We didn't want to expect people to have to come pick it up either.

Plus, if she gets to bake and I don't have it there tempting me to eat 5 cupcakes a day, I'll be happier.

is "Puppy Chow" the same as Monkey Munch??? chex mix, peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar?

if Amy can make that - I'd be in heaven. Ask her how much a big bag would cost??

She says she can make that, no problem. We'll go to the grocery store tomorrow, just figure out how much pecans cost. That's the only thing we're not too sure about and we don't want to overcharge you. It shouldn't be too much. I'll shoot you a PM/reply on here soon.

for others considering buying some goodies:

i just received my pecan pie and had a small slice and i started laughing because it was so good. it was still very warm and gooey when i got it. highly recommended; would do business with again and probably will. and they were very nice people, too, which helps me feel like my money was well spent all around.

thanks Muzition00 and wife!

Dude, i think your prices are a bit low. You could probably get away charging 25-50% more for quality home baked goods.

I'd be curious how much volume your wife ends up doing. Ive thought a lot about running a small bakeshop side buisness for a while.

^ I think so, too.

But I think the point of what they're doing is as much about occupying time.
You can only read and watch TV and shit before you wanna start doing stuff that costs money when you're in a transitional period like she is.

Better for her to bake ~4 hours a day, make enough $ for carrying-around cash, and be occupied.
Am I right?

"...ranked by level of comfort in making and my personal opinion regarding tastiness." - says the wife

I think she's basically ranking these based on what she would recommend.

The muddy buddy mix... I wasn't sure how much it made, volume-wise, but we made it the other day and it filled a gallon-size Ziploc bag. It was a lot more than I thought would come out of an order, but then again I guess it is an entire box of cereal.

We'll be out of town today, so if anyone wants to order anything, we can make/deliver it tomorrow. We have one order to do and if anyone wants to place another, we can try to deliver it fresh tomorrow.

P.S. We'll probably take a couple dollars off bulk orders if anyone was interested

I bet you could sell these on the street/in offices (if you have an in w/ someone) premade in smaller quantities, and for a bigger profit.

I'm pretty sure that's how Paula Dean got started.

Dude, if it were to take off, she could run a bakery.

^ Well, place an order. We'll have it to your door tomorrow

^^^ I think she would totally run a bakery if she could. And, personally, I think she'd be successful, cause she's good. It just makes me glad to see her get to do something that makes her this happy and she's really excited at the fact that she can make a little money doing something she loves.

Really, if anyone would like to place an order, even a custom order, we can do something you need. We made a pecan pie for one Robone85. All it takes is a day or two to price the ingredients. Also, someone asked if we could deliver to workplaces and the answer is, "Yes, absolutely."

And thanks to everyone who has placed an order so far. Both Amy and I really do appreciate it.

^ one dozen, usually for $12.

The only time we'd go higher than that is when there are some extra or uncommon ingredients required we'd have to go buy. The Pineapple Carrot cupcakes with Lemon Cream Cheese icing fall under this category, but trust me they're worth it!

^^^^ Rob, you have a point. And, in all honesty, I went to the cupcake shoppe about 4 or 5 days ago and I was really unimpressed. there was a lot of icing on the cakes, but my cake was really dry and the icing seems to have dried on the outside. The only thing I could come up with was that they weren't totally fresh or something.

^ The cookies batches make about 2 dozen regular size cookies, regular size being about a rounded ball of batter that would sit in a teaspoon. Amy said that the size changes a little depending on whats in them. A sugar cookie would spread out to about 4 inches and something with some nuts and stuff in it would be a little smaller. They're not small like the cookies you'd find at Sweet Tomatoes or something (thay sell bags of small inch and a half cookies).

Haha, she can make brownies of all types, shapes, colors, races, religious beliefs.. whatever you want. I'm not sure about pricing.

Let me know what kind of brownies you'd like and we'll figure out a price once we check out ingredients. We'll hook you up.

P.S. We should be posting an updated price list with some newer stuff and a few small price adjustments of a dollar or two. We'll also try to outline what some of the cupcakes cost specifically, like which ones are $10, $12, and $14.

P.P.S. She's getting some spring form pans soon, so she can do cheesecakes as well if anyone would be interested.

Specific pricing (most of the prices haven't changed from above, but listed are the items we've made and/or figured out the prices for):

Cupcakes
$14 - Pineapple Carrot/Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting
$12 - Boston Creme/Chocolate Buttercream or Ganache
$10 - Vanilla or Chocolate/Vanilla or Chocolate Buttercream

Cookies (1 batch usually makes 2 dozen)
$10 - Chocolate Chip (add $2 for another add-in, Heath bar or M&Ms for example)
$10 - Sugar cookies (add $2 for a good, liberal icing)

Other
$12 - Muddy Buddies (we had to raise these a little - still makes a gallon Ziploc bag full)
$10 - Rice Krispies Treats (add $2 to throw in a bag of chocolate chips)
$13 - Pecan Pie

The cookies and Muddy Buddies were a little more than originally thought because of the chocolate chips. A lot of the other cupcakes and cookies will be of a similar price unless they have something like macadamia nuts or mascarpone (for the tiramisu cupcakes). Also, keep in mind we can do about anything you want any way you want. Let us know and we can let you know how much.

Thanks everyone for your orders!
