This is an odd situation--
I want to dual boot OS's on a new PC. I of course need my keyboard to select which OS I want at startup.
The thing is, my PC doesn't recognize my keyboard until Windows loads. According to Google, this is simply a matter of getting into my BIOS and setting it to recognize USB input devices at start-up. Well, this is clearly problematic, since I also need the keyboard to get into my BIOS.
Any thoughts, other than buying a lame-o PS2 keyboard for one-time use? 7/9/2008 1:11:38 PM |

ive never had a problem getting into my bios with a usb keyboard...
is this a home built pc? what usb port is it plugged into?
and yeah, they have usb to ps2 converters which cost nothing...they come for free with any usb mouse/keyboard. usually green or purple. id try one of them.

A Gigabyte P35
I've tried all the back USB ports. No luck.
^ I tried that, but didn't have any luck, either.
This is almost certainly a dumb question, but-- it wouldn't matter that the USB->PS/2 adapter was the green-colored one intended for mice, right? I couldn't find my purple keyboard one.

Hot-diggity-dog. Thanks!
But why would they do that? Buncha' jerks.
I'll pick up a $9.99 keyboard when I'm out. 7/9/2008 1:38:32 PM |

So I was about to go out, when synapse's "what usb port is it plugged into" popped into mind again. I realized "I've tried all the back USB ports" wasn't exactly a complete answer to that question.
For Pete's sake, Gigabyte... of all the USB ports to choose, you chose the front ones?
Problem solved
