Is anybody having trouble finding jobs as life science majors. I applied close to 55 different places. Not one response. Is anybody else having this much problem? 7/22/2008 10:04:56 AM |

go into sales. i did genetic research for a biotech company in RTP for 3 years after college. it was mindless work and I made shit for pay. at the end of my 3rd year i made less than the previous 2 years. 7/22/2008 10:16:25 AM |

biotech and pharma is down right now as far as expansion goes. new growth and building of new facilities is at an extreme low for this industry at the moment. 7/22/2008 10:30:16 AM |

I have a biology degree and work for a CRO in RTP. CRO's in the area are really hiring - but with no experience, you just have to find a way to get your foot in the door.

^ that's what i was going to suggest. the whole experience thing is a chicken and egg situation. experienced CRAs make bank. see if you can find a way to become a Clinical Trial Assistant, and move up from there. 7/22/2008 12:03:04 PM |

there are alot of openings in biotech companies, not big level jobs but entry level stuff
also, maybe consider sucking it up and going through a temp agency
thats what i did and i worked my ass off and showed them id be worth hiring full-time

Have you looked at one of the state labs? They hire a good many entry level medical lab people (among other jobs).
I don't work in the medical part, but there has been several openings recently. I don't currently see any openings though.
Where I used to work, Hospira, hires alot of lab people as well. They always have openings. They really suck though (& you'd work 2nd or 3rd shift).

welcome to having a science degree!!!!11!!!!
you forgot an option
go to grad school and get a degree that gets you a job
that's pretty much the only option, now or later is the only question 7/22/2008 7:52:50 PM |

I would try here: http://www.ncsu.edu/epack/

That's one route to go, Kelly Scientific and Manpower Scientific will find you a job if you're half way qualified. If you go through an agency you will not get the same pay, the temp agency gets some o dat.
How actively are you looking, what is your experience. What kind of entry level work are you looking?

What kind of experience do you have? When did you graduate? What did you graduate with?
I graduated with Poultry Science didn't see tons of options and not make more money working in a chemistry lab. I took a lot of additional chemistry and science tho.
Of course, I am still considering teaching because as bad as the world think that there pay sucks it honestly isn't that bad for a 10 month contract. 7/23/2008 12:22:32 AM |
