driving around my cousins 04 silverado. regular cab. 2wd... brake lights do not work, except for the 3rd brake light.
speedo does not work, but tach does, mileage works and everything. gas gauge does not work either, but the gas light does come on.
checked all fuses. havnt really gotten dirty over it, and dont really want to.
what'r some common failures (ok, lets leave all the chevy jokes aside ).
for some odd reason the MAF sensor was unplugged, so this tells me that just maybe there might be another plug or two unplugged somewhere around the bay. VSS maybe. fuel sender may be messed up, but i dont wanna dig around the gas tank
heck its a chevy.. this could be the prime of its mileage.
BTW 77K miles on it. 7/24/2008 12:00:43 AM |

fusebox is bad? wild guess, but ive seen it once before on those. call sir walter parts dept and ask them what they see a lot of, then call hendrick in durham and ask the same thing. 7/24/2008 12:03:05 AM |

hmm... ive seen some box fail before on some scions. so i can see it happening.
everything else works. i dont think my cousin would be down for dropping $$ to replace that if its just brake lights and speedo/gas gauge.
i think its been like this for a long time. so he's already gotten use to it. 7/24/2008 12:05:52 AM |

you sir have a ground loose near the abs pump on the frame rail, believe it or not i have run into this before after dropping a tank, the vss, fuel gauge, and brake module ground to the same spot, if the abs light isnt on, you likely have some blown fuses because of that too, i dont know if you've tried it, but the cruise control shouldn't work either 7/24/2008 8:50:35 AM |

ahhh, you know.. i was driving home last night and talking to myself...
i was like "man ill be damned if there is a ground that is not in place"
haha.. what'r the odds..
good call. that was something i forgot to mention. i'll def. take a look.
but i still dont understand why his MAF sensor was unplugged and why this ground is loose/off
he's def. not the type of person to work on his vehicle.... maybe someone replaced his air filter and heck, messed around with some stuff. perhaps the ground wire is broken. 7/24/2008 9:08:29 AM |

k, so yeah, cruise control does not work.
during lunch i went under the truck, did not see any grounds that were loose, i was trying to get a location sheet to see if any where missing.
looked on both frame rails. and under the engine bay.
hmmmm watson hmmmm
colter... i checked the rear end, didnt see any wires that lead to it. i had a clean set of clothes on so i didnt actually check up close, i may have missed something though. 7/24/2008 12:23:14 PM |
