I know it's probably been hammered into the ground at some point or another... but when you are looking at a couple of choices for a job, what makes the difference to you guys?

Besides the obvious (pay, benefits, work environment), a slightly less obvious consideration is distance to work. Daily commuting/gas prices can be a big drain.

go with the one that has the most positive impact on your long term career goals.
if either job is good for your long term goals, i'd lean towards the one that pays more.

the drive to work wouldn't be bad with any of the options i'm looking at right now, since they're all close. the future is definitely something i'm concerned with and i don't want to peg myself in one small spot and not be able to get out of it. of course, i need all the offers first  7/24/2008 10:36:30 PM |

Absolutely agree. A dead end job is just that, a dead end. Depending on where you are in your career, here is what I ask myself...
1. What am I going to get out of it? If the answer is just money, I walk.
2. Is it a big name company? I can usually tough it out at a so-so job at a big company if I can use it as a springboard to something better.
3. If I am going to stick around in a company for a while, how is management? Do I want to be a part of the management team? Do I believe this company is going to be around for a while?
