am i to assume there will be post-game pancakes?
7/27/2008 11:48:04 AM
It's tough to find a place indoors, even the community centers usually have other stuff going on. They only have open gym for like 2 hrs. And a lot of times you are playing with a bunch of and1 wannabes that like to hog the ball every possession.

there are some people at the outdoor courts on campus normally around 5
7/27/2008 12:10:29 PM
most people at the campus courts suck cockthey dribbles like mongloids and hoist 3's like Phillip Seymour Hoffmanyou can only hurt your game by playing there
7/27/2008 12:13:18 PM
U village court is nice. there are usually some people out there on the weekend.
7/27/2008 12:14:26 PM
U Village or Wolf Creek are decent for pick up games
7/27/2008 12:15:34 PM
Lake Park - always games going on.Just be sure to bring your 9 and bullet proof vest
7/27/2008 12:17:33 PM
Yeah the courts like 40 feet longAll you have to is get a rebound and then turn around and shoot

I guess I'll try Method Community Center at 2.If he's bullshitting then I'll check out these other places. Thanks for the help guys. Keep coming with suggestions. Or we can now use this thread to bitch about things that occur during pick up games. I'll start. I hate playing with three pointers counting as two pointers. The math is off. It's like having a 4 pointer in a real game. It is some Rock n Jock shit that rewards bad basketball and going with percentages it makes it stupid to work for a good shot or lay up. Turns games in 3 pt shootouts, taking away about 85% of the game. It also makes it very possible for a team that makes the most buckets by a huge margin (thus playing the best) to lose the game. I'm done.
7/27/2008 12:51:49 PM
Yeah, but in a typical pickup game the caliber of play is so low that it's too easy to just dump it inside to the tallest guy and get bucket after bucket. The "2 point three" at least equalizes the game a little bit when you don't have equal teams. During the week at my gym we play with 1s and 2s... and on the weekend (with a different group and much better/more competitive) we play only 1s.I'm only 5'10" but I play so much better with just 1s even though I'm a really good outside shooter.

That's an interesting way to look at it. THat puts a little too muchj emphasis on height. But you're right, I guess it gives a less talented team a chance to win, but that might be why I dont like it. It punishes the good players.Zones: People that try to play zone with a bunch of guys they dont know always fail. It works fine if you know who you are playing with. But most people say they know how to play a zone and have no clue. It leaves every rebound open and there's no accountability, when an opposing players gets anywhere he wants on the court.

i hate playin games where every basket counts as 1. i feel like my best strength (shooting) is nullified. i still shoot 3s just so everyone knows i've got the range.
7/27/2008 1:07:45 PM
I play better with all 1s because I don't feel the pressure to pull up from 20-22...I can take that one extra dribble or set up that one extra foot in to get closer to the basket. It's amazing how much of a difference in the FG% that extra 1-2 feet makes.Plus I am able to drive more and take advantage of my passing ability a bit more often. I'll be honest, when I'm playing 1s and 2s I tend to fall in love with the outside shot a bit too much...
7/27/2008 1:10:37 PM
I pull up from 25 no matter how we're keeping score
7/27/2008 1:10:55 PM
^

it's so much easier to get a wide open shot behind the 3 pt line, than to work for a higher percentage shot, that when you play with 2s, so many of the players will pull from downtown within a few seconds.......It does reward good shooters, but it seems to detract from passing, post play, dribbling, teamwork.
7/27/2008 1:18:36 PM
I like to hit a few 3's early, especially if I'm playing with people that don't know my game, so they're forced to respect my rangeThen I can pump fake and drive by them, either giving me an open lane to the hoop or forcing someone to come off of their man, giving me an easy pass to a cutter
7/27/2008 1:22:47 PM
i grew up playin with people bigger than me in my neighborhood so i got use to shootin outside cause it was the only open shot i could get. i'm so much more comfortable outside the 3 point line. my game developed as i grew up so i can do more, but i'd much rather take a shot from a foot outside the line than inside.^same, i use the 3 as a setup for the rest of my game.[Edited on July 27, 2008 at 1:23 PM. 7/27/2008 1:28:31 PM
we need to get a TWW pick up game going when school starts back, without all of the scrubs in this thread http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=516176with the actual decent competition that is on here
7/27/2008 1:28:41 PM
Blacks have many inherent advantages in basketballBut posting up is not one of themBesides, white people tend to have much bigger asses
