i was moving to a new house the other day and was turning onto walnut st in cary at one of those red lights with my dad's pickup truck and it turned red and i said "well stopping at this light and having to reaccelerate will probably waste about 5 dollars worth of gas so i just went after the light was red for a second. I noticed looking in my rearview that it was a red light camera and am wondering if i may have just earned my dad a sweet $50 ticket. I drew a sweet little pic to show the intersection. I have asked a few people and they say they think you can only get a ticket on walnut st going towards tryon since that is the way the camera is facing. let me know if anyone has a clue. 8/5/2008 4:14:59 PM
i thought this was about those hidden covert cameras for taking pictures of people in the dark
8/5/2008 4:16:02 PM
i thought they ruled those things illegal...

i just mailed off $50 for running a red light in cary
8/5/2008 5:42:41 PM
yea, they arnt illegal yet in raleigh. i got one on dawson a couple months ago

i think you can get points on your license for that, but can get it down played to a city violation. They cracking down on violators more now due to WRAL and N&O doing stories about traffic violations and how the city isn't doing enough to beat down on citizens who break simple traffic laws. My friend's grandma got pulled doing a 51 in a 45 two months ago. Got it dropped, but just wasted ppl's time and money.
8/5/2008 5:54:03 PM
mail them a picture of a $50 billyou can lose your licence if you do not pay
8/5/2008 5:56:00 PM
or a picture of chuck norris...

lol
8/5/2008 6:02:47 PM
so basically nobody has a clue

obligatory "maybe you shouldn't run a red light"
8/5/2008 8:17:02 PM
i think i got hit by one today in atlantathe light was green, but i was watching this guy that decided to turn left in front of me at the last second so i slowed downlooked back at the light and i was in the intersection and the light went from yellow to red
8/5/2008 8:19:52 PM
i always thought it didn't matter, as long as you've gotten into the intersection while the light is still yellow

no points will ever go on your license for a red light "ticket"; they are only infractionsI'm pretty sure that the cameras there can get you going that direction. There might be more than one camera, I'm not sure, or they can point more than one direction. Those cameras are pretty damn sophisticated. Options: stake out the mailbox and pay fine when it arrives, fess up to pops about the possibility of ticket arriving, do nothing

Here's an article from today about the effectiveness of the Red Light Camera program in Raleigh, and how they have helped to significantly decrease accidents at the intersections at which they are installed. There is a chart with statistics. The city is also planning on adding 3 new cameras and moving 3 others. "Raleigh to expand red-light camera surveillance"http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/3407391/

Is this the intersection of Walnut and Dillard? If so I hope you realize there is more than just one camera at that light. So you probably did get tagged.
