I missed my courtdate friday to be in NY for an important wedding the same day
i know i can go in monday and fill out the form to get my case continued (you have to go the day AFTER your missed date...theres nothing that can be done BEFORE your date )
my question is...since im still out of town...how long do you have before they send SWAT to your house? 8/10/2008 11:22:39 PM |

you'll be fine. I am pretty sure it takes them at least a month before they even issue the bench warrant. I had a friend in High School that hired a lawyer to take care of a speeding ticket. The lawyer never showed up for court. Well, like 4 months later he got pulled over again for speeding and the cop was like "um, hey man, did you know you have a warrant out on you?" 8/10/2008 11:28:26 PM |

depends on the case
for some cases they immediately put out a warrant for your arrest 8/11/2008 12:22:55 AM |

yeah i dont think you need to worry about SRT storming your house for an FTA, unless you were like out on bail for murder or something8/11/2008 12:51:32 AM |

sent a cop to my house and arrested me for a missed court date. The original offense was an expired registration on my car. Not good times. 8/11/2008 10:42:21 AM |

my sister had to go to court and hired a lawyer to go, and he never showed up. a few days later she got a letter in the mail saying there was a warrant out for her arrest and my mom was flipping her shit.
the lawyer finally got his shit together and took care of it. 8/11/2008 11:59:27 AM |

theyll have a warrant out for your arrest in two weeks
it takes them longer to come out to your house, usually 4 weeks but that doesnt matter, once they have a warrant out for you they have to arrest you, erven if you show up to court to file the paper work 2 1/2 weeks later they still have to arrest you
believe you me, you do not wannna dick around with this, take care of it as soon as you get back

uh, you can call the clerk of court and ask for a continuance or file a motion to continue beforehand
[Edited on August 11, 2008 at 1:42 PM. Reason : no-showing to court for a wedding is pretty stupid]8/11/2008 1:30:24 PM |

since when?
i know for fact that was not a possibility as recently as 2006. you had to go to the clerks office and fill out the paperwork, and it wasnt accepted before the court date.
thankfully i havent had a court date since then so i wouldnt know about how it is now.8/12/2008 11:00:01 AM |

i do know that you can have something automatically continued in disposition court just by calling the clerk because i've done it before

There is no warrant issued for quite a while. What you need to do is simply call the clerk's office. Every county is different. In Wake county I have handled that kind of thing over the phone and gotten a new court date that way, but in Orange County or Alamance County (they are a joint district, so usually you have to get everything handled in Hillborough) they require you to show up in person, and then they'll just give you a new date.
Actually, the Chapel Hill courtroom posts a sign on their door that tells you all about what to do and how long you have to do it (I believe it's about two-three weeks). 8/12/2008 10:04:12 PM |

I had a cop come to my house trying to arrest me due to a warrant...on someone else. It took me 30 fucking minutes to prove to this asshole that I wasn't the person he was trying to arrest and that they had given a bogus address.
But, funny story, I still haven't completed community service that I was given 2 years ago and it was supposed to have been completed within 3 months....still no warrant, though
