So I graduated last May from NCSU in Mechanical Engineering and have now been working for a year in a manufacturing facility as a reliability engineer. I would really like to get back to Raleigh and know that online applications are less than promising. I have looked at careerbuilder and monster and have applied to several positions. I am looking for something in design of products or process applications. Would really like the opportunity to be creative with something.

Does anyone have any secrets in the Raleigh area for available engineering positions?

you still have access to ePack, so abuse it

I just got an interview for a job off there, and I've been looking since May as well (though I'm ChemE, not Mechanical, I did see a ton of companies looking for MechEs on there).

and mail out resumes, too: I started doing that more often once I saw how long it took to get a response with some of the online submissions

It's not really cost effective for headhunters to work on anybody with less than 6 years of solid experience with large engineering firms. My advice would be go through the application process online. It sucks ass but do it, those resumes get sent straight to HR departments. Unfortunately HR is the filter you have to pass through, and some recruiters can help you get past it...especially the good ones who have relationships with head engineers.

Also do some online research and find companies that are interesting to you. Find the appropriate email address within their company and send over your resume with a cover letter.

I've had much more luck applying for jobs that way than through job postings and online applications.
