They come from the dealer with a Certificate of Origin. It usually gets lost after the thing changes hands a couple of times, so don't be surprised if you're buying a used ATV and it doesn't have it. 8/13/2008 11:21:58 AM |

Quote : | "Article 10A
Titling of All Terrain Vehicles
Section 56 3 1420. An owner of an ATV may make application to the Department of Motor Vehicles for a title for the vehicle accompanied by the required fee and upon the appropriate form prescribed and furnished by the department. The application must be accompanied by a manufacturer’s certificate of origin or previous title properly assigned to the applicant.
Section 56 3 1425. When a person who is not a licensed ATV dealer receives by purchase, gift, trade, or by another means a vehicle that was titled in this State, the person who receives the vehicle may make application to the department for a title. The application must be accompanied by the required documents and fee for title. The department shall issue a certificate of title once it has received a properly completed application. An owner of an ATV, before the enactment of this article, who cannot provide proof of ownership, may request an affidavit from the sheriff in the county in which he resides. The affidavit shall state that the sheriff finds the person making application for the title is the legal owner of the ATV. Before issuing the affidavit, the sheriff must verify through the National Crime Information Center that the ATV is not stolen. The department shall issue a title application to the owner upon presentation of the affidavit, application, and fee.
Section 56 3 1430. The title fee for an ATV is contained in Section 56 19 420(A). For purposes of this article, an all terrain vehicle (ATV) is defined as provided in Section 50 26 20.” " |
http://www.scsenate.org/sess117_2007-2008/bills/348.doc They are titled in SC. Not in NC. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you already have the ATV in hand.

I wouldn't really worry considering they do title them there. I'd be more interested in getting my hands on the ATV and the COO. You don't need the title here in NC. 8/13/2008 11:49:51 AM |

I bought "the club" approx. 10 years ago at a kerr drug store. it was on the clearance rack, it was something like $10. I would have thought the keys would have been lost long ago, but somehow I still have them. 8/16/2008 2:17:32 PM |

Speaking of ATV's...Anyone know anyone who does good side work? I have an oil leak on the injection side that I don't want to mess around with, I need to put on a new bushing on the steering linkage, and I need to get all my fluids changed. Been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to do it, but I want to start riding more now that it is about to cool down.
Or maybe I'll just grab a few suitcases of beer, a trashcan of ice, and have a teardown/buildup party after labor day.

1995 Polaris Scrambler.
I bought it off NC4x4 a few years ago for a great price. It had been sitting for several years due to a dead starter. I put a new starter on, fixed the pull start, and had the carbs rebuilt and it has run like a champ ever since. 8/24/2008 1:59:11 PM |

what do you suppose a EFI 4 stroke 450 burns in fuel/hour riding around the yard? tank is 2.5gal, its on its 6th tank now, so (based on when the light came on for me) id estimate no more than about 11-12 gallons actually ran through the thing. theres hardly any scratches on the body from getting on/off, and theres no dirt hiding anywhere.
