i searched some other threads but found nothing. Thinking of buy a boat trailer from TN, which he says is a non title state. He says he has 3 bill of sales (notarized) from previous owner changes for documentation and I simply show that to DMV. Anyone know if this is legit?

should be.

alabama is also a non title state. wildlife here in NC said just get a notarized bill of sale, which is pretty much all you can get.

then you gotta fill out the paper work.

Bill of sale will do just fine. Bring that to the Wildlife Office on Centennial Campus and you will be fine.

wont DMV have to verify that the trailer in question is actually the trailer in your possesion- that is, check the ID numbers on it?

the trailer should at least have some sort of registration i think. i dont remember.

but call wildlife up, you can get in touch with them easier than the dmv to ask the same Q. but some may know the answer, some may not.

the dmv website should have some info on it.

^^^yeah, possibly they might require an inspection. sometimes they're nice and will issue a title on an out of state trailer with a bill of sale though.

the trailer had a title at some point or at least a manufacturers certificate of origin though unless someone made it. does it have any numbers/stamping on it anywhere?

i would try the bills of sale first. worst case scenario, you have to strip it of any numbers or tags on the frame and claim it as a homebuilt unit. dmv will issue you a vin to stamp on it, an officer will inspect it, then you'll be issued a title.

^worse than other states, but it's not that bad. sure is a HELL of a lot easier than getting an auto retitled anyway.
