i think it is as simple as that: Misha Saakashvili is a dipshit.

he's an ultra nationalist who apparently thought he could do a quick invasion of S. Ossetia and bring the breakaway region back under control and restore the Georgian borders while everyone was distracted by the Olympics opening ceremonies.

too bad Russia had been building up their border armies for just such a scenario, for the past 10 years.
