hahah i was going to do it anyway... but i certainly expedited it because of it... i hate driving in traffic.

sry. didn't pick up on that.i really really wish that the city of raleigh would take the trash cans and modify them to be a combo trash/recycling. i also want to start a compost.[Edited on August 15, 2008 at 5:02 PM. Reason : if you got rid of the boat you could get rid of the truck!]

I would love to live more green.I try to recycle and pick up trash when I see it.If I had more money I would by organic food and go to the farmer's market I use all my grocery bags for picking up my dog's poop.I reuse my ziplocs.I would LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE to grow my own food and have an herb garden and everything. I can't wait to get into that stuff, but with school and the dog and having a rental house and knowing next to nothing about growing my own stuff, I can't yet.I wear hippie skirts I get really pissed when people go kill animals for fun--especially endangered or exotic ones.I want the world to get into better sources of energy. And I think "green" houses are awesome, with solar panels and everything.I'd love to be more green. But even though I'm not that green, I really don't want it to turn into people going green because it's "cool". I'd rather people go green because they care and because it's important.Damnit.

If you are buying in season, you have a pretty good chance of it being (produce wise). Plus many will advertise their farm name. You also can go to smaller town's farmer's markets, but there rises the issue of driving.
8/15/2008 5:22:41 PM
I hope to at some point be building/designing actual green buildings (not the face "green" advertising/gov. bs fake green).I would also like to build a home on land I have, but it would probably be a better idea to stay in the city.....who knows.
8/15/2008 5:25:14 PM
I try to be green by doing all of the above and unplugging anything in the house that is unused, using those flourecent bulbs, turning lights off when not in the room (I'm amazed at how many people do this!) and even though we don't recycle at the home I make a point to do it at work.Something that pisses me off is they're thinking about opening an Exotic Hunting farm where they grab zebras and shit, let them loose in this fenced in area and people can hunt them. Some of the prices are 5k and up. However, this isn't hunting, this is trapping animals in a climate they shouldn't be in and shooting them dead. Not cool.
8/15/2008 5:25:54 PM
being green isn't cool.
8/15/2008 5:26:04 PM
thanks for the website - it looks like baucom's best does ship...i'll have to look around for more local.actually i think that the NC State farmer's market is all locally grown within the 1st main building (so i take my comment back), but i know that a good number of larger farmer markets are bringing in produce from all over.i'll stick to papa spuds - they deliver it to me, it's RIGHT out of the fields and i haven't had any issues with them.[Edited on August 15, 2008 at 5:28 PM. Fairly greenI don't wash and reuse baggies - mostly because I avoid using them as often as I can. My bf kind of followed my lead for a little bit...and then jumped on board. We compost, and recycle, and all that. I'm also a water nazi. I hang clothes outside a fair bit. I drive as little as possible, combining trips, and take more than a few cues from hypermilers.I'm much more a fan of reducing first, and then reusing and recycling. So...lights often stay off, the AC up, I use reusable grocery bags (and looking at them...they're non-woven, and I think they're of scrap fiber!). I don't buy bottled wated, individually packaged things, or wasteful cleaning methods (except for clorox wipes for the toilet that's my indulgence). I go very easy on the bleach - I was raised on well water/septic tank, and live on one now, so it's more for that than for the sake of being 'green'. When I clean out my car? I don't throw the trash away. I recycle that. Kind of annoys my bf, I think.Next step? conquering our collective brown thumb, so we aren't buying stuff grown in CA and then shipped here.I used to never really think much about this sort of thing. Shit, my family sometimes re-uses wrapping paper. We ALWAYS reuse giftbags til they're falling apart. So the 'green' stuff I grew up with was- frugality from my mom- scarcity from my dadThey have since turned 'hippie', if you will: they're moving to CO once my sister goes to college, and they're planning on solar panels and windmills - they would love to be completely off the grid, but aren't counting on it.When you're poor, you get creative. When you're in a third world country, you don't get wasteful and lax with the stuff you brought from America (hence re-using wrapping paper at christmas)---I had more I was gonna type, and then I started talking to my boss and lost my train of thoughtOh well [Edited on August 15, 2008 at 5:29 PM. The thing about florescents is the light quality is SHIT. Having a space designed for daylighting would eliminate the need for the bulbs, except for at night. Also, using less light at night promotes a more natural time schedule (which also promotes better physical/metal/hormonal health (due to sun exposure, sleep affects etc etc)).
8/15/2008 5:30:53 PM

i would actually like to purchase an old home in the downtown or 5 points area (or somewhere in between) and renovate it so that it meets my green standards.
8/15/2008 5:36:46 PM
I don't use my nalgenes anymore due to plastics used in them. I do however, have many many plastic green sport gatorade bottles. Bottled water never made sense to me from an economic perspective. Seems like an all around waste.Solar panels have been making large gains in technology lately. I've had relatives who bought them (one being in the mountians (winter is filled w/ blackouts and he just had had enough). I want to say it will become much more economical in the near future, if not already.Ambrosia, this is a reason to get an architect for the design or renov. People think they can get away w/ generic designs, and they can, but their lives/homes would be so much better w/ one. Tract/builder homes FTL.[Edited on August 15, 2008 at 5:40 PM.
