I rent a one bedroom place and my girlfriend stays over a lot. Well my crazy ass landlord is wanting to raise my rent because she believes my girlfriend is living with me. Can she raise my rent legally????Does it matter how many people are staying there??

Probably depends on the fine print in the lease agreement, but it shouldn't matter unless she's moving stuff in etc.[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 11:48 AM. Reason : argh^]

Punch your landlord in the face. That should solve this problem.

Ooooh I have a copy of my lease right here (random I know)....let me read up!This is from the basic Apartment Association of NC Rental Agreement:14. GENERAL RESTRICTIONS & OBLIGATIONS OF RESIDENTA. Resident Agrees Not To: (1) Permit any person other than those listed in Paragraph 1(A) to reside in the Premises. A person shall be presumed to reside in the Premises if they are an overnight guest for 10 consecutive days, or for any 14 days during any 60-day period. Residency in the Premises may also be established by the totality of the circumstances.WORD

14 days of a 60 day period? Dang, if they just stayed over the weekends then they'd qualify

so basically, unless the landlord can prove the 10 consecutive or 14 days they can't ask for shit. Interesting.

^ it depends on the individual lease agreement. not all lease agreements are created equal ]

I'd only put up with that if electric and water were included in the rent, and let crazy ass landlord know that now that GF is having to pay she will be showering over there every chance she gets and making use of it.
