In the early morning hours of July 17, a Zebulon couple became the proud parents of fraternal twins, Will and Katie, at Raleigh's WakeMed. A difficult pregnancy had resulted in the mom's hospitalization earlier in the month, and Katie and Will were born after just 28 weeks of gestation.
Both children gave mighty cries as they came into the world, with doctors and the family holding high hopes for the twins. However, Will’s fragile lungs weren’t strong enough to sustain him, but his parents were able to meet him, love him and hold him until he went to sleep with God, comforted in the fact that he stayed with them long enough to keep his sister safe.
Katie continues to improve daily and though their heart aches for little Will, this couple has been able to experience some of the joys of new parenthood – diaper changes, baths, tiny outfits and lots of eye contact. Just 2 lbs., 5 oz. at birth, Katie's doctors are happy with her progress, as she continues to slowly pack on the ounces, getting bigger every day.
Those same doctors expect Katie to remain at WakeMed until some time around her due date (Oct. 6), so daily – if not more often – her parents make the 50-mile round trip from their Zebulon home to spend as much time as possible with their little girl.
In this era of high gas and food prices, a group of local artists has come together to help raise support for their travel and medical bills, and will take part in a benefit concert called “A Song for Katie,” to be held Thursday, August 28 at Raleigh’s Vintage21.
We have an outstanding night of entertainment planned, featuring artists and entertainers who will donate their time to support this worthy cause. Local artists include acoustic singer Becca Black, who most recently lit up stages throughout the region with Triangle-area rockers Crave, indie-pop duo Tola and the World, up-and-coming rock worshippers The Jon Lloyd Band and emcee Big A, a standup comic who has opened for Josh Blue, Tim Wilson, Victoria Jackson and others.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with entertainment beginning at 7. A $10 minimum donation will be asked of all in attendance, with proceeds to be given directly to the family.
Vintage21 is an all-ages, non-smoking, non-alcoholic venue, and this will be a seated, general-admission show. The venue is located at 117 S. West St., Raleigh, NC and ample parking is available. For more information, or directions to the venue, please visit http://www.v21productions.com.

I think this is pretty common for twins. Twins run in my family, skipping a generation each time. My grandfather's twin didn't make it, but he did. And I wouldn't have made it if not for advances in technology by that time. Me & my twin bro were born premature & I was the one that nearly didn't make it in that pair. I was underweight, and had to have constant care at city outside of my hometown due to the lack of facilities in my small hometown. We both made it alright and both graduated from NCSU.
Maybe you could get this on to TWW's homepage. They put the fund raiser for the boy whose leg had to be amputated due to a tractor accident on the front page of tdub recently, maybe they would do the same for this if you submit it as a home page news story here:
