8/21/2008 6:04:13 PM
i know the odds are with me but this guy's just gotta be white
8/21/2008 6:04:34 PM
I think he got a good punishment, but I am shocked he didn't get at least 6 months in jail.
8/21/2008 6:04:38 PM
^so you think he got a good punishment, but that he should have gotten more punishment?lol, wat?
8/21/2008 6:05:38 PM
^My point is that he should have to do all of the community service and speak at high school, but he should have had to do X amount of time behind bars first.
8/21/2008 6:07:07 PM
8/21/2008 6:11:26 PM
and he was hammered behind the wheel. don't they usually ramp up the punishment for people who were less in control of their actions? also this guy looks like a complete Cary barnacle

i understand that the husband might feel a certain way and not think that jail time is what the kid needs....but there are a few small details that dont add uphow bout that HE KILLED SOMEONE AFTER CHOOSING TO DRINK THEN DRIVEhmm?fucking bullshit legal system
8/21/2008 6:18:48 PM
OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!
8/21/2008 6:20:18 PM
^this guy is a total douchebucket.but seriously, don't most people spend at least a little time in jail for killing someone whilst intoxicated?
8/21/2008 6:22:49 PM
I had a friend killed by a DD and he got 7 years for Involuntary Manslaughter, reduced to 3.5. That was in CA though. However, the guy that hit my friend also was hit with 2 felonies. A third one is a minimum 25 years. That's for the rest of his life, don't know about NC law though.[Edited on August 21, 2008 at 6:25 PM. Reason : s]
8/21/2008 6:24:05 PM
^^He has to spend time in jail on the weekend, but that isn't enough.[Edited on August 21, 2008 at 6:25 PM. Reason : .]
8/21/2008 6:25:00 PM
Yeah, the quote that I posted from the husband makes it sound as though he had a say in the sentence. I know a little about the law, but do his feelings have sway with the judge?
8/21/2008 6:28:55 PM
pretty sure killing somebody on his 21st birthday is going to haunt him for the rest of his life. i dont see what jail time would do except prevent him from making a positive out of this somehow[Edited on August 21, 2008 at 6:29 PM. Reason : d]
8/21/2008 6:28:59 PM
mandatory minimums are the bee's knees
8/21/2008 6:31:23 PM
^^not everyone has that same moral code. maybe his depression (or haunting as you call it) over the incident causes him to drink and drive again and kill someone else.dude should spend some time in jail, even if it's a prison camp or something. taking a human life should have more serious repercussions.[Edited on August 21, 2008 at 6:33 PM. Reason : ^]
8/21/2008 6:31:27 PM
the guy who killed my sister got 3 months and 3 years probation. his license was suspended for 12 months. no rescrictions on drinking, and he got another dui a year later. he died during another drinking/driving accident about 4 years ago.for this guy the 400 hours of community service will be rough since his license is suspended for 3 years. he should go to jail for a period longer than 5 weekends, and while jail doesn't allow this guy to do anything productive like speaking at schools about what he did, i think it serves as a good taste for what he's facing should he ever fuck up again.]
8/21/2008 6:35:17 PM
the article says he was out drinking the night before...i wonder if he slept and for how long before going to class

8/21/2008 7:11:08 PM
8/21/2008 7:11:27 PM
I don't know how any sane person could even begin to think this is appropriate. This wasn't just a "mistake". He didn't just "screw up". He didn't just "make a bad choice".He fucking killed someone. This innocent lady is dead, this fucking kid gets off with a slap on the wrist, and her family has to deal with that for the rest of their lives. There is zero excuse for such a light sentence. Talking to kids in school about drinking? Community service? Is this some kind of fucking joke? We live in a world where simple dope peddling will land you as much as 10 years or more, but killing someone out of completely conscious stupidity and irresponsibility gets you this? Let's get real. This kid should fucking rot in a cell, along with every other DUI murderer out there, but unfortunately the justice system fails yet again. [Edited on August 21, 2008 at 7:56 PM. Reason : .]

people are missing the fucking point of jail time. yeah it's punishment for the convict, you can isolate dangerous people from society, etc. but the most effective thing about jail should be the fact that it discourages future convicts from doing stupid shit. if he KNEW he was going to be ass-raped for years and kept in cramped quarters with little food (not the modern day pussy-jail bullshit), he might have reconsidered getting drunk all the fucking time, and we wouldn't have an innocent person dead right now.
8/21/2008 8:46:42 PM
nah, i'm pretty sure the most effective thing about prison is that it segregates dangerous people from the rest of society[Edited on August 21, 2008 at 8:50 PM. Reason : and harsher sentences don't discourage dui's]

Some people in this thread need to put themselves in his shoes before they respond.
8/21/2008 8:59:44 PM
It sucks that a person died, but he obviously wasn't drinking and driving. He slept or tried to, and I'm pretty sure if I had to do 400 hours of community service and pay $10,000, and not be able to drive for 3 years, I would have a pretty shitty job and pretty much no ability to pay that money, and not be drinking at all much less ever drinking and driving. Jail would be good to scare him a little, but I don't think it's a good use of jail space since he most likely won't be doing anything that stupid for a long time.
8/21/2008 9:03:02 PM
fuck thisI faced 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for a prankI should have just killed somebodystupid god damn legal system

I feel bad for the guy, it's not like he went out and got wasted and tried to drive homehe had a DD and went home and slept it off, and tried to get up the next morning so that he wouldn't miss class but he didn't realize he was still over the limit by a little bit.12 is not THAT far over the limit, I bet half of you blasting him in this thread have driven a car with a .12 BAC at one point or another
