Any suggestions on where to play around Raleigh? I prefer woods. Is Sunday a decent time to play?

black river was decent way back when. they had a couple woods fields and a decent amount of people there interested in that aspect of the game.

sunday usually isnt bad, but saturday is always gonna be a better bet.

We went to Black River... it was ok. There weren't a lot of people, but enough to get some games going. The speedball courses aren't very good, but I like woods better anyways. They have one pretty good woods field. Their bunkers are all really low, which sorta makes it hard to move around, but it was fun.

Ncsubozo, what don't you like about Gotcha? We were originally planning on going there.

When we went it was being run by 15 year old kids. They basically goofed around the whole time with the regulars that were playing with the thousands of dollars of equipment and multiple reload pods, aka the games we couldn't play in with rental guns. We had to constantly nag the people working to run games we could play in. They had a woods course but wouldn't let us play it as we were the only people that wanted to. We had a group of six people if that matters.

We went to a place outside of Charlotte in I think Rockville, SC that was worlds more professional than gotcha. I've also been to a place in Fayetteville called Force of Nature that was way better.

Im not a regular player though so maybe my experiences are not the norm.

^ a lot of paintball places are like that because no one wants to ref for minimum wage unless syou have a really dedicated owner.

i personally liked gotchas speedball field setup better than black rivers way back when, but both were about equal in my eyes.

another note. its fine to play with regulars if they arent assholes. plenty of people will split up to mix with people and not go quite as crazy on a rental player.

I went to black river again to get rid of these DXS Field balls.

I gotta say, I'm not too impressed with this place anymore. They only have one speedball field, which they took down 1.5 hours before the place closed. And two of the refs were responsible for taking it down, which meant there was only 1 ref for the last portion of the day, so only one game could go on at a time (they require a ref for every game).

And to explain how poorly it is run... two guys got in a fist fight and they didn't even kick them out. 45 minutes later one of the guys (a regular) started more trouble with someone else (another regular).

I've also changed my opinion on the woodsball field. It's really just two speedball/urban fields separated by a lake, so there's only so much you can do, strategy-wise.

I guess I'll try Gotcha next... or drive a little further to somewhere better. Predator paintball in Hillsborough was much better than Black River, and they let you use your own paint.

FoN hasn't existed since sometime around 2k2-2k3, Dave and Bob the owners had a falling out and Dave owed the IRS like a $100k in back taxes. Bob started a new place called freedom paintball, which he sold around a year ago to bobby who owns a large paintball supply company. Bobby also bought Black river from alan and now it is all called BR Sportz, they've got the field in Angier and the one in Fayetteville. I airsmithed off and on for freedom for a long time back in the day before I got out of tournament ball.

gotcha is just run by assholes, never liked most of their staff. probably the best place to go is out to greensboro to PB Central.

Where is the best place in the area for a company trip? We had a good experience at Gotcha but were hoping that there is something closer or on the western side of raleigh area so we can meet up with our other branch.

The only other place I know of in Raleigh is Black River paintball. The management there sucks.

Predator paintball in Hillsborough is better, but a further drive than either.
