I have a 9 week old beagle puppy that I can't take care of anymore...

He's brown and white with green eyes....I got it about a month ago...but as soon as I got him, there were changes in my job, apt and I barely have any free time to look after him anymore. My parents are looking after him right now...

I spent a lot of money on him already....
Spent $200 on the dog, $40 crate, $60 large bag puppy food, tons of treats, toys, 3 leashes, 2 collars, $70 vet visit for a general checkup, tests, $120 second vet visit for shots, checkup, deworm, nails, shampoo and about $70 for deworm pills for the next 6 months..so I'm looking for $250 to help cover some of my costs......There should be no more expenses for a long time.

He's really cute! Good luck with finding him a home. I really wish I could take him, and $250 is a really reasonable price for a beagle. I think my parents paid close to $400 for theirs (not including all the extra vet stuff you listed too).

ended up adopting a chow chow not too long ago from someone who didn't want him cuz they think he's going blind

You forget about NEUTERING the dog, third set of shots, training classes, etc.

I always plan for about a grand a year for dog expenses. Just want the next owner to be fully prepared.

that being said, i buy this guy if i didnt have roommates and wall to wall carpet.

you didn't spend a $1000 in 13 years??
Did you not feed it? Even the cheapest dog food out there would add up to a grand over 13 yrs. Simple math.. cheap kibble for $10/month x 13 years = $1560.
I spend around $50/month to feed my 3 dogs and now it's doubled because I have 2 foster pups.

Annual costs for a vet visit with vaccines can be around $100-$250 for the basics. Yes, the first year is typically the most expensive but there are plenty of low cost spay/neuter programs and rabies/microchip clinics.

I love my dog but god damn she has been way more of a financial burden than I expected. When she drops a bomb on the floor because she is scared to shit in the rain I ask myself if its worth it.

Other than that she is a good dog and it is worth it, I just want people to think about what you are getting in to when you get a dog. If you are not in it for the long haul then don't do it. It is a lot easier to find a good home for a puppy than a grown dog, don't waste that young animals chance at a good life.

I worked for a vet and heard this ALL the time. Trust me, a grand for the first year is a reasonable estimate if you feed a decent quality food and get the animal neutered and properly vetted, maybe a training class. If you don't spend it all put the rest in an account for emergencies. exam, one xray and euthanasia for my dog was close to 300. Her bloat surgery was about 2 grand and the vet was a total POS and completely botched it. Had I know how horrible that woman was I would have had the local vet euthanize her the first time she bloated and save her all the pain that POS emergency vet caused.

Quail Corners is A LOT better then the emergency vet off Glenwood. I've heard even worse things about the one in Cary. Quail Corners saved my 2 parvo pups lives and my cat after he was hit by a car. The majority of emergency vets are straight out of vet school while the vets are Quail are usually experienced. I've been to both of them numerous times.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Did it have volvulous sydrome (severe bloat where the intestines twist).

^definitely agree. quail corners did an excellent job reconstructing my dog's leg/inserting a titanium rod when she was hit by a car a few years ago. the night it happened i actually took her to the glenwood place first. imo, they did a good job stabilizing her and getting pain meds going until she could see a surgeon in the morning. that's my only experience with them though. sure as hell wasn't cheap, it was $1200 just to get her through the night and then another $2000 or so for the surgery. that was with a discount too because we do their plumbing work and know dr. jackson personally. what was a free dog quickly turned very expensive. i still would have done it if it was twice that amount though.

my parent's 13 year old jack russell is actually at quail corners right now. she had a blockage in her gall bladder and had to have it removed this week. apparently it's a complicated surgery that only a few doctors will do? there were some obvious concerns with her already diminished health and age, but so far she is doing fine and just ate a little bit today for the first time in two weeks (she's been on iv fluids since she started throwing everything up/stopped eating at home).

I personally feel its fucked up for you to get in over your head and then ask for someone to take this burden off your hands, and for $250 cash. Stop being greedy, focus on finding your dog a good home and forget recovering your costs. Consider it a $250 lesson.
