we seriously might lose this game if evans is the qb.

sounds like a great game to get glennon some experience before clemson, if you ask me.

Under no circumstances should TOB burn Glennon's redshirt. Our o-line is TERRIBLE. Would you put our qb of the future behind guys who can't block for shit? Risk getting Evans and Beck hurt while Wilson recovers, but don't risk Glennon.

you have to put him behind that line eventually.

how much better do you think it'll be next year?

^Exactly. It pisses me off when people say "wait till our offensive line doesn't suck" Who's to say they will get better? It's not like we have this backup OL waiting in the wings that's going to come out and save the day.

Like simon said, he's got to get behind them eventually. They actually played better than I expected (minus the snaps).

He will get behind them eventually, yes, but he's young. A year learning the offense will have him much better prepared to be behind a less-than-stellar o-line. An o-line that is actually better suited to be a d-line...

Let's wait until the o-line is used to playing on offense before we put him in, shall we?

yeah, the redshirt is learning the system, recognizing what works/what doesn't, what college defenses look like, seeing the speed of the game compared to high school, acclimating yourself to college life/new city, getting stronger physically, etc. and not...

wait until a better offensive line comes along

it would be one thing if he could step into a team that could challenge for an ACC championship, but that's not the situation

If TOB knows anything about football, it is O-Line play. He will have them playing better.

Look at the recruits he has gotten already starting with Mattes...

Yeah, excuses excuses...

P. Rivers' o-line wasn't much better. I remember those days. Ouch. But, somehow Rivers pulled it off. It's called pocket presence, laz0r eyes, and pure skillz. With top o-line, we might have been hearing the words "national champs" in our ears.

Sean Locklear is a starting RT for the Seahawks....Jed Paulsen was looking at the NFL before a bad injury ruined that. Scott Koistra was drafted and still plays for the Bengals. Leroy Harris was drafted and made the Titans. Chris Colmer was also in the NFL before injury ruined his career. You are way off. None of the current guys will sniff the NFL.

COT and Engineering need to work on a cybernetically enhanced suit to protect our quarterbacks, perhaps with enhanced arm strength as well. Maybe the Master Chief can lead us to victory.

^^And rivers made every single one of them look better.

Those players you mentioned weren't starting/playing much during Rivers first few years, and he made out alright.

A big part of the Oline's success is having a QB that knows how to move around in the pocket. Case in point: Tony Romo comes in for Drew Bledsoe a few years back, and magically the Cowboys OL stops giving up dozens of sacks.

[Edited on August 29, 2008 at 10:44 AM. Reason : Panthers OL was pretty awful last year, but David Carr didn't help.]

Technician saying Wilson has a grade 3 concussion.

From what little I know, that's the worst kind of concussion. I think there's even some temporary paralysis involved.

Anybody have any experience with concussions and know how long he might be out? Back for Clemson? Back this year?

During the game last night they said something about how they initially thought it was a grade 3 concussion but they later found out it was less serious i think.

Good point. Technician probably went to print around 11pm, so it's likely not an updated report.

We'll see I guess.

^x6, Master Chief might be OK behind our O-line. That is until he'd blow a fuse or lose his HUD or something when the NCSU injury curse got to him.

Regarding the grade 3 concussion, I think that loss of consciousness is a major criteria for a grade 3, basically loss of consciousness = grade 3 for most of the concussion grading systems.

Philip was also a rare talent. The fact he came in a semester early, got a full spring session in to get used to the system, the players, and the offense, and college life certainly didn't hurt.

And yes, Philips O-Line WAS MUCH BETTER than what we have now.

If it's his first concussion, he should be good by next week, but they might hold him out a week for safety's sake. With that said, knock on wood, because you could end up with a Kevin Weekes situation where it's the first concussion and the guy's never the same afterwards.

^^^That's true for a mild concussion. I think you are underestimating the seriousness of what happened to Wilson (but hope you are right).

According to the wikipedia article (as has already been said twice) even with a grade III concussion as long as it's his first concussion he theoretically could be back playing within 1-2 weeks, if it is not his first, then he's pretty much out for the season or at least a month or two.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concussion_grading_systems

But I'd wager that this might have worse psychological effects than physical, Evans got a concussion early in his starting career and he never really played quite the same since.

So is Eugene supposed to be back for the W&M game? Brown showed some decent runs last night despite the early fumble

Btw can our team beat the shit out of our center every time he makes a bad snap in practice? Cause that shit is unacceptable

^agreed. How a college-level player can be so lacking in basic fundamentals is beyond me. And it's not a new thing, I've been watching high/low/awkward snaps for years now

I had a grade II concussion with unconciousness for around a minute and was cleared to play again in a week and a half.

If we're going by the criteria that any concussion with unconciousness is a grade III, then Paul Kariya should've been out a week when Scott Stevens leveled him...but he was back on the ice scoring from the blue line ten minutes later.

Every concussion is different.

the knee was the ultimate blow on that Wilson concussion, but wtf was up with all South Carolina's helmet-to-helmet hits and the refs never throwing penalty flags...USC is undisciplined as fuck

we have been having bad center play for the past couple years, but it actually is a new thing for him. Larsen is one of the converted DT's and this was his first game as center.

yeah somebody was telling me he was a converted d-lineman...still its easy to get mad at him since his two bad snaps became turnovers deep in our own territory

His bad snaps only resulted in one turnover deep in our own territory. The other bad snap resulted in a 3rd and 2 becoming a 4th and 20 or something like that. Evans ran back, fell on it, and we punted it away. The other TO in our redzone was the result of an Evans INT.

i'm guilty of that sometimes, but like i said, its easy to blame the center a good bit for last night just because despite the fact that we werent scoring points, neither were the gamecocks, until the first bad snap fumble in the redzone, where to our defense's credit, we held them to 3...but yes if it was a close game late in the 4th and somebody fucked up, they would definitely get the blame just because thats how we do

Also keep in mind that EVERY snap was from the shot gun. I did not see a single drop back play, so in a way it's somewhat impressive that a guy who had never played center until this season only had two bad snaps.. but still, this shit needs to be fixed.

The thing with William & Mary is, you'd think William would be on offense and Mary would be on D, but Mary's got a helluva arm too and she's not quite the tackler that William is.

Either way I think we lose.

You're giving a bit too much credit - every single snap I saw had something wrong with it, but Wilson and Evans covered this guy's ass.

I'm surprised there weren't more turnovers, especially when Evans came in.

if you guys think we'll lose to W&M you're smoking something. Even when we SUCKED bad two years ago we still beat App State, and they went on to win their national championship.

We'll beat W&M and we'll beat Duke. I think its 50/50 on Maryland and UNC. And the rest are losses
