Old thread was dead.
I'm in Brisbane, Australia now. We just setup a blog at danandp.wordpress.com if anyone's interested.
Its definitely a bit different. Slower paced. It took a freaking month to get the internet hooked up. Theyre a bit behind the times as far as pricing for technology. a PS3/xbox game here is $120! Internet service here has d/l quotas, etc. Food so far has not been so great in general, but we've been to a couple quite nice restaurants. The weather is fantastic. Its winter here now so its in the '70s all day and it cools off to the '50s at night. The city itself is nice and metro'y enough to be a little exciting. The Brisbane River winds through the city so people take CityCat ferries up and down and across the river for public transit. Works out pretty well and the views are awesome. The people we've met have all been really nice..
I'm still looking for a EE job here. No luck yet.. its all mining and construction stuff here.. not my forte. 9/1/2008 12:00:48 AM |

I hear everything closes really early and that the nightlife is ~~. Is that true for Brisbane? 9/1/2008 11:12:37 AM |

^^yeh its true about things closing early. Sun-Thur most things close at 5pm. Friday open till 9pm. Sat till 5pm, Sun till 4pm. There's a big outdoor pedestrian street/mall thing. On each end is a big 4 story mall, each w/ a big department store. Even they close then. The restaurants and bars stay open though in the outdoor mall part.
So yeh, thats pretty frustrating for people who work..
I'm not a big clubber or anything so i can't say much on that, but even in the valley where i live just outside the city, there are people dressed up all over on the weekends and loud music coming out of secret doors everywhere. so i suspect i could find some fun if i wanted to. I'm sure we'll go out sooner or later. There's also a whole disco district on the other side of the city i've heard, but i haven't been there.
Bars open early.. is not uncommon to see people drinking beer w/ breakfast. hah
^cool, man i hear Sydney is great. I've never been though. We have friends in Melbourne. 9/1/2008 7:48:34 PM |
