i was just thinking earlier how soccer is pretty gay[Edited on September 1, 2008 at 9:59 PM. Reason : saw some folks on the intramural field playing it and thought that]
9/1/2008 9:59:05 PM
Soccer is awesome. The US is about the only place that shits on it.
9/1/2008 9:59:39 PM
yeah, i am just bullshitting about soccer being gay. i have several friends that played in college and they invited me to come kick around with them once. I lasted about 10 minutes before I thought I was going to die.
9/1/2008 10:01:22 PM

Soccer is boring if it's not two very competitive teams play each other. If it's really one sided it can be a bore...but a lot of soccer is on the edge of your seat the whole game.

9/1/2008 10:12:44 PM
any sport you have to wear shorts and a t shirt and is very low scorring after an hour and a half is gayim talking about soccer
9/1/2008 10:14:41 PM
haha terpball is that RFK on fire?
9/1/2008 10:20:15 PM
the thing is the statement in the thread title isn't far off. maybe not huge, but it has a decent following here. SAS park in Cary and the Gillette Complex in Wilson are two of nicer soccer facilities around.
9/1/2008 10:22:58 PM
I think it's pretty boring. There are too many players and the field is too big.Soccer fans say FB is boring because of the breaks between plays, but IMO knowing when you need to pay attention and can expect something big to happen (after the snap) while knowing when you don't really have to pay attention (after the play) is an advantage. In soccer, you have to be paying attention the whole time, because something exciting can happen at any time. Unfortunately, most of the time the play is boring, it's just people kicking it back and forth across midfield.
9/1/2008 10:23:53 PM
don't forget all those makeshift fields with scrap lumber goals where the mexican folks get drunk and playwe got a few of those back home
9/1/2008 10:25:59 PM
^^Soccer is 11 vs 11. Football is 11 vs 11. Soccer plays on a field 120 yards long. Football fields are also 120 yards long.

^^ They aren't comparable like that, the size of a football field has less bearing on individual plays, and it's not as easy for one player to take the ball from another as in soccerSoccer can be compared much better to hockey, which is 5 on 5, with a smaller area of play. Hockey is faster, making it more exciting IMO.[Edited on September 1, 2008 at 11:47 PM. Reason : ]

If soccer wants to get popular here they need some character to the players and the coaches that people can take interest in and get behind. We need a Bill Shankly.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Shankly
