I just need one or two. I'd like to have at least one with the top cut out, doesn't matter if it's clean or not. Who's got 'em? 9/2/2008 3:22:44 PM |

Run by any AAA Automark and they will give you any empty ones if they have them. 9/2/2008 8:22:04 PM |

dan, hit me up if you find an extra one or two. i'm tryin to run the 7.3 on used transmission fluid. i've been getting some here and there in two 5 gallon gas cans, but i'd like the ability to store more and maybe filter it better than what the truck does. 9/2/2008 9:07:39 PM |

yeah, some people run it straight and claim no problems. i doubt i'll go much more than a 50/50 mix though. the little bit i've been doing has been 75/25. 9/3/2008 1:11:08 AM |

I usually fill up my fuel filters with tranny fluid when I put a new one on. Cleans 'er out real good.
I used to throw a quart of ATF in with every fuel fillup on my mom's Caprice Estate diesel. Kept the injectors spotless. A lot of folks used to harp on how the Olds diesels smoked so bad on acceleration, but after we started doing that, it never smoked. All the way up until it threw a rod at 130k. You know that's damn good for an olds diesel.
Speaking of which, I'd love to build one of those engines, but the bad thing is you can't find parts for them anymore. I know where an assload of those engines is sitting...none good, of course. 9/3/2008 9:05:46 AM |

^^Wait a minute, you got an olds diesel to throw a rod?? Seriously?? Most died from overheating and blowing head gaskets, or were scrapped when something like the injector pump went bad, but ive never heard of one throwing a rod through that beefy ass block though. 9/3/2008 9:38:16 AM |

I remember having to drive up to just above the Va. line to pick up my folks and my sisters. 5 people and an assload of luggage in a Sentra station wagon. It sucked.
I drove the SHIT out of that car. A guy that worked for Bobby Murray bought the car and rebuilt the engine. Drove it for quite a while afterward.
That 200-4R was an unbelievably tough tranny. The only problem we had with it was the torque converter lockup solenoid. It wouldn't lock up, but at the time I didn't know about replacing/cleaning such things...and I was the only mechanic in the house.
Naw, miraculous we never blew a head gasket. Mom overheated the hell out of it once when the water pump went bad and the coolant level dropped. Had the injector pump rebuilt twice (makes me hate the Stanadyne/Roosa Master pumps), and put three starters on it, 'cause Mom burned 'em up when the glow plugs weren't working right. 9/3/2008 10:08:55 AM |
