i had a good time playing with acid . for like a week. some of it pretty intuitive but for me there came an incredibly intimidating wall between me and understanding it's mechanics. so everything sounded like it was throw together with a .wav copy/paste extension by the time i was done with it
made a pretty sweet mix of "Purple Pills" and "Clint Eastwood" though.

acid or cool edit.

i use acid and i didn't think it was too intimidating and found it to be pretty intuitive.

i've used cool edit too and that junk is sweet, imo. really easy.

cool edit is now adobe audition, which is a great program that I use to cut and edit my guitar shit.

If you need free use Audacity and don't whine cause, you know - it's free.

If you need good software consider Pro Tools or Soundbooth.

If you're just needing something for looping, get a hardware solution - so much less headache...

acid is a pretty good program and comes with a lot of loops and sound effects.
the biggest problem i found was finding a good drum or percussion program to make cleaner beats from scratch. i had a hard time finding something that wasnt controlled with a mouse and keyboard for cymbal crashes and other percussion sounds that i liked and was user friendly. but i have produced anything in years and im sure there are some good programs out now compared to several years ago.

yae i think im gonna go back to Acid if i can find a clean version, hopefully that filestube version was clean...just make sure i got good virus protection
