I got the VGA cable to hook my computer up to my TV (Sharp Aquos 46 HDTV, 1080p) - it worked perfect for 2 days, now all of a sudden the screen is blank when I change to that input. What could be the problem? I reset the TV to factory settings, and never changed the settings before hooking the computer up to the TV... using the TV as a monitor. 9/6/2008 4:17:41 PM |

Maybe you accidentally changed some setting on your computer (for instance set it to a resolution or refresh rate the TV does not support) 9/6/2008 4:20:16 PM |

I know i didn't change anything, it stopped working while I was sleeping. How do I find which resolution and refresh rate works best for my TV? 9/6/2008 4:23:14 PM |

1080p is, by definition, 1920x1080 with a 60Hz refresh. Sometimes your graphics card may try to autodetect the monitor's capabilities and set the resolution accordingly. In my experience that usually fails miserably. I would just plug the computer into a monitor, adjust the resolution, then connect to the TV again. (You may have to uncheck the "Hide modes this monitor can not display" box if you're running WinXP to enable all your graphics card's output modes.*)
*Go to Display Properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced button -> Monitor Tab

The ratio is off, the only one it will use is 1280 x 1024. So now I have sidebars. It worked perfectly before , taking up the whole widescreen. At least something is coming up though...
The highest setting I have with my vid card is 1920 X 1200 - can't set it any higher.. I just don't get why it was working perfectly before and has sidebars now. 9/6/2008 4:40:47 PM |

You don't need it higher than 1920x1200, you need it LOWER. 1920x1080 9/6/2008 5:23:56 PM |

I fixed it, thanks dude. Still don't know wtf fucked it up in the first place
P.S. I am in love with this fucking TV. I just plugged it into the wall, and its HD tuner got me all the channels for free. All the premium HD channels too. and I'm not paying a dime.
