In a 9/11 conspiracy. I mean just watching some of the documentaries out this week, its really hard to argue with the scientific analysis of what really happened. All of the various studies and analysis, done by countless agencies both government and private, pretty much debunk any BS and confirms the events the way most accept them. You really have to be a nut case to still think that it was a vast conspiracy. You really cant argue with the physics 9/8/2008 7:45:11 PM |

my theory is the entertainment media we've grown up with
when we see something so catastrophic, on such a huge scale, it's hard to wrap our minds around
so we pick the simpler explanation -- a conspiracy -- perhaps influenced by all those TV shows and movies and novels 9/8/2008 7:49:00 PM |

I bet you know we walked on the moon too. I'm not saying its a conspiracy but theres still a lot of fsihy ness surrounding 9/11 that has yet to be debunked. Not enough to really believe yet too much to rule it out. 9/8/2008 7:58:58 PM |

i mean when you watch the scientific analysis on video, while watching the videos live in slow motion, or a computer simulation, or the real video with a computer sim overlay.....its not hard to understand how and why things happened. Anyone with a 1st grade understanding of physics can see this.
"Where did the pentagon airplane go"
it was shredded/disintegrated by a forest of reinforced concrete pillars inside the building
"Where was the airplane debris from the pentagon"
see the above answer and realize the principal of physics called inertia. where froward momentum meeting a stationary object would cause any surviving debris to fly foward not back.

There's a vast absence of information pertaining to the Sept. 11 attacks. Anytime there are unanswerable questions (or unquestionable answers), people are going to find their own answers and their own questions. 9/8/2008 10:43:13 PM |

Exactly what he said; that's the beauty of the human mind. We reason AND imagine. We get to look at the facts AND ask the questions. We see the physical evidence AND we extrapolate/interpretate. Like some say, "It's what makes us different from the animals."
Sadly, some people view the act of logical reasoning as acceptable, but imagination as unacceptable. Kind of oxymoron if you ask me. Or just purely moronic.
I enjoy "conspiracy theories". Helps me think and use my brain. And if lucky, I'll get to feel and use my heart.

I completely agree with this. It's an unreal thing to try to comprehend.
And, I for one, have an incredibly hard time believing that my government is capable of this. They can't give me healthcare, they can't fix social security... how the fuck could they mastermind something on this scale with so many people involved???9/8/2008 11:27:28 PM |

Maybe it's because they don't actually give a fuck about fixing Social Security or giving you healthcare. 9/9/2008 12:37:43 AM |

^^ Maybe they didn't mastermind it... maybe they knew about the plot and let it happen?
I am not saying I believe that, but it does make you wonder.
Look up the following acronyms on the internet:
LIHOP (Let It Happen On Purpose) MIHOP (Make It Happen On Purpose)

ill agree with that, but not call it picking a simpler explanation.. i mean come on with all the twisted stories and whatnot

I'd say the government can take care of many things in secrecy, now just how badass those things may be, well, I dont know.9/10/2008 12:10:43 PM |

It's frequently not because it's the simpler explanation at all. But we do desire balance, something greater at work for the greatest of atrocities. As an example, here's something historian William Manchester wrote with regards to the JFK conspiracy theorists:
Quote : | "To employ what may seem an odd metaphor, there is an aesthetic principle here. If you put six million dead Jews on one side of a scale and one of the other side put the Nazi regime – the greatest gang of criminals ever to seize control of a modern state – you have a rough balance: greatest crime, greatest criminals.
But if you put the murdered President of the United States on one side of a scale and that wretched waif Oswald on the other side, it doesn't balance. You want to add something weightier to Oswald. It would invest the President's death with meaning, endowing him with martyrdom. He would have died for something.
A conspiracy would, of course, do the job nicely." |

You're a fucking dumbass. Yes imagination is important, but what you're implying is that logic is some kind of detriment. If anything they're both important to progress; you need imagination to come up with the concept, but you need logic to think it through. I'd argue that you need more logic than imagination, to keep the imagination in check, but that's another topic for another thread.
Quote : | "I enjoy "conspiracy theories". Helps me think and use my brain. And if lucky, I'll get to feel and use my heart." |
"Using your heart" is precisely why conspiracy theories exist in the first place. Your mind, having never experienced events as traumatic as 9/11, has trouble properly processing it. You cannot fathom "why" such a thing could happen ("why" being in quotes because from the outset you assume that there is some grand reason it came to be, eg it was the will of your deity of choice), so you make up some bullshit story about how it couldn't possibly have been an accident that, that somebody had to have allowed something like this to happen. Voila, a conspiracy theory.
Simple logic would tell you that conspiracy theories are bullshit. An event of that size being pulled off in complete secrecy? Hundreds, if not thousands, of people would have to have been working together to pull it off, and they all kept quiet about it? What makes you think that hints of their conspiracy would escape and come into the hands of people like you? Or do you think yourself to be some kind of brilliant detective while everyone else is a bunch of sheep? Oh wait, I forgot, the conspirators conveniently have everything perfectly set up so that the sheep will think you're just paranoid. Silly me, the evidence is perfectly clear now!

I completely agree. I think its more comforting to know that we're faced against a competent, rational, and malicious foe instead of admitting that people are simply stupid or crazy. Perhaps because the latter you can battle with and predict while the latter is just scarier.9/10/2008 3:05:32 PM |
