How the hell is a four pack of raw chicken tenders 11 dollars?

Am I missing something?

Well, chicken tenders are usually priced a bit higher than breasts because they've done the trimming for you. How much does the pack weigh?

You're paying for the privelage of viewing the hot white meat that's still walking around in there. Milfs galore.

^^^I didn't get the peel & eat shrimp. Still a little pricey!

But I did go crazy up in there, ended up spending $100, but after the VIC savings it was $70

Fuck yeah, that shit is like $6.99 for like 2 lbs and that is just the regular price when it isn't on special or a coupon or something.

I prefer chicken tenders to chicken breasts...I guess I'm burning money on them, but I don't care...only the finest Kroger brand chicken tenders for me. I'm rich, biatch

I'm not sure how long ago (definitely over a year) the meat counter set the chicken breast price at $1.99/lb but I love it and don't understand why anyone would buy a prepackaged 3 pack from the shelves for double the price.

These days I buy a bunch of those and grill them all one night, then have grilled chicken to last almost a week for a variety of meals...love it

i feel like food lion has stepped their game up for what it's worth. there are still the sketchy ones, but the one near my place in cary is pretty good. I have to go to teeter for some of the more exotic ingredients but most of the time food lion has what I need. Basic produce like carrots and onions and the like are always on par with what teeter has.

I get my eggplant at teeter though. food lion eggplant is scary

Same here, I'll buy 4-5 of them and toss them on the grill on Sunday, and eat them all week for lunches / various dinners. My grill is charcoal so makes it worth it to cook a bunch of meat at a time, rather than just 1-2 pieces.

This just in...

New grocery stores are nice.

Grocery stores in nice neighborhoods are nice.

There are exceptions to the rules.

Carry on.

^^ Produce quality is kinda shitty...some ok but lots gross.

Salad dressing/condiment selection is boring.

Deli/prepared food sucks a big one.

Seafood selection blows unless you want some old light pink farmed salmon or frozen shrimp. Pork's good to go though.

Fresh baked bread is lame.

Steaks aren't that great. Wondering if it's mostly select and not choice.

All that said, I still shop there for staples.

Yeah, their deli definitely sucks compared to most grocery stores. The other stuff (seafood, and bakery mainly) i guess I don't notice as much since I don't buy a lot of seafood. Same with the breads. For specialty breads, I might go to a bakery/cafe place that's here close to my house cause the make some good shit. But yeah, I definitely see where Food Lion is lacking in some areas.

what kind of things do you pick up from the deli and what do you make with them? I don't eat a lot of "sandwiches" so i always tend to pass by the deli and cheeses.

some delis will make stuff like chicken salad, pimento cheese and stuff like that. but if you don't eat sandwiches i guess that doesn't appeal to you.

i get the jalapeno pimiento cheese from HT from time to time. It's delicious on crackers or baked on top of sliced baguette.

the prepared foods, such as rotisserie chicken, and maybe the "chicken from the back", is usually just food that is very near/at/past it's "sell by" date; so grocery stores will do something to repackage, rebrand, and sell it off instead of taking a 100% loss. 'Tis the reason why a rotisserie chicken is cheaper than a raw chicken.

I always assumed it was made fresh, but I'm not positive. Either way though, it tastes much better and fresher than the other shelf packaged brands like Ruth's.
