TWW Lawyers, what prompted you to go into law? I'm interested in your general experience both in law school and in practice. What parts were worse than you expected and what parts were better? Do you go home feeling like you're contributing to the world, or is it just a means to an end? (That end being a paycheck).

Well, why did you chose to go into law, and how has law school met your expectations?

i majored in political science...and i enjoy higher education?? haha i kinda just wanted the degree and i think the subject matter is interesting. now that i've actually had a little bit of experience doing things in an internship setting, i MAY even want to practice law. although i was pretty much set against it when i started. but actually, i kind of like it now.

i don't know what expectations i had about law school. i don't think i expected it to be full of so many irritating and stupid people. i think i maybe expected it to be harder? i don't really know if i had that many expectations going into it. it is what it is i suppose. definitely didn't go into it for the paycheck. although there isn't anything wrong with that....that is the reason most people get jobs. i actually want to use my degree for something related to law (instead of just getting a degree to use as a door opener) and i am one of those weirdos that enjoys school/learning.

I went to law school because that was what I thought you did after getting a poly sci degree. I did have an interest in law and torture, so I was not completely screwed by deciding to go to law school.

Law school is a mental boot camp for three years. It has its moments, but is pretty much miserable.

I have been practicing for three weeks and like it so far. I only do family law in a midsize firm. I put in 50 hours a week at this point and no real lunch break, unless it is a networking event.

The biggest transition from school to practice has been learning that what the law book says and what actually happens are totally different. Experience really matters.

Sousapickle is going to law school in NYC. Unless things have changed, he has no interest in practicing law but needed a good excuse to move to the city.

I'm in my final year of law school and overall I'd have to say I've enjoyed it. First year is the roughest. Second year you're more comfortable handling the workload. Your final year is more laid back. I find myself having more time to watch sports and spend time with friends. I've always wanted to be an attorney partially because my dad is a successful attorney but also because it's something I felt I'd be good at and enjoy. So far that is still true. After undergrad I worked for the SECU in the card services department for 2 years and discovered exactly what I did not want to do with my life. It was very unrewarding and unfulfilling. Being an attorney, I feel, will be the exact opposite.
