Other than a Smith & Wesson
The small neighborhood I'm building my house in has had a few issue with material growing legs. Most recently a good portion of wires were snipped from a neighbors house causing thousands of dollars in damages. I want to do something about security and was curious if anybody has experience with this. I see tons of products like cameras and audible alarms but do any of them work better than Spy-Tech? I was thinking something that would record with nightvision but then again I don't want to spend Texa$ just to get it.

I will probably sleep out there to try and bust somebody, but this shit pisses me off.

You have several options.

Buy several cameras and record everything...don't forget to cover the street.

Boobytrap the entire place. 2x4 with nails always works nice.

Camp out in camo gear with a .45 and take care of the problem.

Hire security to patrol during random hours.

Your best bet is to get a security guard for the time before the house gets closed up and a real alarm system gets put in. The guys who strip wire are usually subcontractors who know exactly what they are doing, and can rip and run FAST.

i've seen cameras outside of houses before, typically they just mount it on a post, i think mostly if the security equipment is visible nobody will try anything.

although my first thought was how easy it would be to just cut the cable going to the camera, but whatever.

Noen's right though, it's typically sub's that work with the stuff. best chance of catching them is to monitor the hous the week after the copper's put in, this includes A/C & mechanical units.

Vigilant neighbors are the best form of security. Myself and my family have run people off of construction sites in the middle of the night by firing a shotgun into the air on several occasions. Make sure you inform the local police/sheriff office so that they'll make an effort to patrol the area at night. Unless you send a lot of money, all cameras will give you is a grainy picture of a human-like shape taking all your shit. Unless you contracting this yourself, your builder should have insurance to cover events like this. If you are contracting the build yourself, look into insurance for theft and vandalism.

Spend $100 on some fake cameras and a spotlight or two (make sure the cameras are visible)
