Warhammer 40k is to Starcraft what Dungeons & Dragons is to World of Warcraft.
GamesWorkshop makes small 1.5 inch pewter figurines of soldiers and space creatures, and tanks the size of transformers models. They sell them for a lot of money. Players can paint them (optional, but most people do it) to have whatever color scheme they want, and amass a huge army. I painted some of them when I was in high school... it's not terribly difficult to have incredibly detailed guys like in this picture, because basically you prime them, paint them the color you want, then wash them over with black watered down paint that tends to fill in cracks. Then if you take your brush with metallic paint on it, dry it out, then brush it against the edges of your figures, you can get highlights.
PeopleNerds will collect huge armies with their large disposable incomes that tend to collect from not trying to sleep with every woman they see. There's a whole game that you can play with them with mock battles and strategery and what not... but honestly unless you have some friends who play regularly, it's a pretty expensive hobby. 9/19/2008 6:13:15 PM |

The blizzard analogy is bad. Blizzard just just the bare minimum to prevent Games Workshop from suing them for massive copyright infringement. You analogy should read: Warhammer 40k is to Starcraft what Warhammer Fantasy is to World of Warcraft.
For the uninitiated, Warhammer is a table-top minatures game. Think chess, but without the board, cooler pieces, and a lot of dice.9/21/2008 3:31:37 PM |
